The third match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 saw Scotland beat West Indies by 42 runs in a Group B fixture on Monday at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
After being asked to bat first, Scotland posted 160/5 on the board, thanks to a well-compiled innings of 66* from George Munsey. The Caribbean side kept losing wickets at regular intervals as none of the batters got going and were eventually knocked over on 118 in 18.3 overs.
The Scottish side have thus grabbed their first win of the T20 World Cup 2022. They have boosted their net run rate to +2.100 to move to the top of the points table in Group B.
West Indies, meanwhile, are languishing at the bottom of the points table after their loss in their opening fixture. The two-time T20 world champions will have to be at their absolute best in their remaining two fixtures.
Ireland and Zimbabwe are placed in the middle of the points table of Group B. They will meet in the fourth match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The race to the Super 12s is going to get interesting after we witnessed another upset in the competition.
Scotland stun West Indies in their opening fixture of T20 World Cup 2022
The Scottish side put up a solid all-round performance to create an upset early in the competition. George Munsey, opening the batting, held the innings nicely from one end and played a fantastic knock. The bowlers then backed up their batters’ effort, with Mark Watt picking up three wickets. Brad Wheal and Michael Leask also chipped in with a couple of scalps.
From West Indies, Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder picked up two wickets each but were a bit rusty on the field as they conceded 160. The batters crumbled in the chase as none of them could adapt to the conditions.
Jason Holder tried hard and top-scored with 38 but a lack of contributions from the other batters resulted in their defeat. They will have to bounce back quickly to stand any chance of qualifying for the Super 12 stage of the competition.
