T20 World Cup 2022: Top 10 funny memes after India escapes with a narrow win in the practice match against Australia
India beat Australia by six runs in the practice game on Monday, October 17, at the Gabba in Brisbane ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup. Skipper Aaron Finch led his side from the front as the hosts fell short by just six runs.
Team India batted first in the contest after losing the toss. On the back of KL Rahul (57) and Suryakumar Yadav's fifties, the subcontinental side set a total of 186/7 in the first innings. Kane Richardson (4/30) was the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies.
In response, Mitchell Marsh (35 off 18 balls) and Aaron Finch (76) gave Australia a blazing start in the chase. Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided a much-needed breakthrough for India in the sixth over by dismissing Marsh with 41 on the scoreboard.
Finch continued the assault at the other end and notched up a fine half-century in the company of Glenn Maxwell (23). Australia were cruising towards victory after overs with this duo at the crease. Bhuvneshwar Kumar once again came back and scalped Glenn Maxwell in the 16th over to bring his side back into the contest.
Virat Kohli then effected a sensational direct hit to send dangerous Tim David back to the hut. After giving away 26 runs in his first two overs, Harshal Patel redeemed himself by bowling a 5-run 19th over.
With 11 runs to defend in the final over, Rohit Sharma thrust the responsibility upon Mohammed Shami (3/4). The seasoned pacer did not disappoint as he nailed his yorkers and varied lengths perfectly to take his side home.
Speaking at the end of the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma reviewed his side's performance and said:
"Overall I thought it was a good game for us. It was a good pitch and they had a decent partnership in the middle which put pressure on us. But I thought in the last four overs we bowled really well."
Speaking about Shami, he added:
"It was always the plan from the beginning that he comes and bowls at the death. We know how lethal he can be with the new ball but we wanted to give him the challenge of bowling at the death. And we saw what he did (grins)."
