2011 Cricket World Cup: Stamps tell the tale
The 12th edition of the ODI Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be held in England & Wales from 30 May to 14 July 2019. Ten countries will be competing for the World Cup Trophy.
All the cricket playing countries have been regularly issuing stamps on Cricket. Cricket is popular in Commonwealth countries and these countries have issued stamps on One Day International World Cups since the inaugural tournament in 1975.
This feature will focus on Stamps and philatelic material related to the 2011 Cricket World Cup which was the 10th edition of the ODI Cricket World Cup.
The 10th World Cup was held in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka from 19 February to 02 April 2011. India beat Sri Lanka in the finals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to win the World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar was a member of this team and it was his first World Cup Win.
Dominica issued a miniature sheet showing the hosts on a Map of Indian Sub-Continent and the World Cup Trophy on a Five Dollar Dominica Stamp.
Stamp on Chris Gayle & 10th World Cup -
Dominica issued a stamp on Chris Gayle to commemorate 10th Cricket World Cup. This stamp was issued on 01 June 2011 and features one of the star players ofWest Indies who is also creating records in 2019 IPL being held nowadays.
Stamps on cricket captains and Stumpy (The Mascot) -
Bangladesh issued a miniature sheet containing 14 stamps of Five Taka each which the Team Captains of the fourteen participating teams and Stumpy (a Young Elephant) -the Mascot of the World Cup.
Bangladesh also issued a miniature sheet and four stamps on 23 February 2011 featuring a Bowler, Batsman, Wicket-keeper and a Fielder.
Nepal issued a special limited edition commemorative cover on 02 April 2011 to commemorate the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
