2016-17 Ranji trophy- fifth round, day 1 round-up: Baroda’s batting collapse put TN on top
Baroda followed the footsteps of New Zealand, England and Australia as their batting order had a huge batting collapse against Tamil Nadu at Raipur. Baroda were cruising at 71-1 when K Vignesh dismissed Dhiren Mistry for 23. It was when Aswin Crist effected five dismissals in space of just 9 balls. After scoring three tons in three matches, Deepak Hooda was run out for a first ball duck by Crist before he scalped 4 more wickets.
Vignesh came back to clean up the tail and dismissed Baroda for just 93 runs with the last nine wickets falling for just 22 runs. Vignesh picked his second fifer of the season while Crist ended with 4 wickets. In reply, Tamil Nadu ended the day with 79/1, 14 behind Baroda’s total.

Defending champions Mumbai ended day 1 against Railways with the scorecard reading 244/5. Akhil Herwadkar got out for 96 while Shreyas Iyer scored a quick-fire 70 and Suryakumar Yadav chipping in with an unbeaten 60.
Ishan Kishan was the player of the day as his unbeaten 162 took his side Jharkhand to a strong position against Delhi at Trivandrum. Promising chinaman Kuldeep Yadav starred with the bat for his team UP with an unbeaten 60. Two matches that were scheduled to take place in Delhi were called off without a ball being bowled due to pollution.
