2016 Caribbean Premier League's US dates announced
The dates for the Florida leg of the 2016 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have been announced by the organisers with all the matches scheduled to be played at the Lauderhill Stadium in Fort Lauderdale in the United States of America.
The CPL sides will stay in Florida for four days and all the six teams will be in action with a total of six matches which will be played between 28 to 31 July.
The 2016 edition of the CPL will see superstars like South Africa’s AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis, New Zealand’s Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Australia’s Shane Watson. These players will be the marquee stars for the CPL teams.
The first match of CPL’s Florida leg will take place on 28 July as the Guyana Amazon Warriors face the Barbados Tridents. The next match will be played on the next day as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots take on the newly renamed Trinbago Knight Riders.
30 July will see the first of two doubleheaders with the Zouks taking on the Jamaica Tallawahs and then the Barbados Tridents face the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
On the last day of action in Florida, the Trinbago Knight Riders will face St Kitts and the Jamaica Tallawahs battle it out against the Zouks.
Damien O’Donohoe, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the CPL expressed his joy over the Florida leg of the tournament. He also promised to deliver a world-class cricket experience over the four days.
He said, “We are delighted to announce fixture information of the ground-breaking Florida leg of CPL which represents an exciting new chapter for the tournament.
Supporters will have the opportunity to see all six teams in action twice over four action-packed days which will showcase some of the best West Indies and international talent on display.”
He also acknowledged that fact that West Indian cricket has achieved something incredible as they claimed the U-19 World Cup along with the World T20 titles.
He stated, “West Indies cricket is on a real high at the moment, with the success of the men’s, women’s and Under-19 World Cup winning squads generating a feel-good factor locally and internationally, and plans are well underway to deliver a top-class leg in the USA.”
Last year the Cricket All-stars played three exhibition T20 matches in the USA and the venues were jam-packed with spectators from around the country. The CPL’s Florida leg will give American audiences the opportunity to watch top-class competitive cricket once again.
