2018 TNPL: Tamil Nadu fielding coach R Prasanna appointed Tuti Patriots' coach
Tamil Nadu fielding coach Ramaswamy Prasanna has been appointed as the coach of Tamil Nadu Premier League heavyweights Tuti Patriots.
Prasanna, who was a prolific run scorer for Tamil Nadu in his playing days, was the assistant coach of Lyca Kovai Kings in the previous season of the TNPL before he was given the role of Tamil Nadu's fielding coach. The 36-year-old will be replacing J Madanagopal at the helm of the side that won the title in the first season and finished as the runners-up in the second.
Prasanna is excited about the new challenge and said that it will be a big honour for him to be associated with Tuti Patriots. When Sportskeeda contacted the southpaw for his comments on his new role, he said, "this is a huge honour for me. Tuti Patriots have been the most consistent team in the last two seasons and getting such an opportunity so early in my coaching career is a blessing in disguise for me. At the same time, I will be having a lot of responsibility and expectations. I have a lot of homework to do starting with the TNPL draft. I have been with Lyca for two years and with the stateside and I hope that that experience will come in handy for me. I know most of the local players. I have played with some of them and was with them as a support staff as well. So, this makes things easier for me."
Prasanna also added that the support staff are yet to be decided and will be named in the coming days. Tuti Patriots have retained batsman Subramanian Anand, all-rounder Akash Sumra and spinner M Ganesh Moorthy.
Prasanna played 59 first-class matches, 16 List A and 7 T20 games for the state and has scored over 3200 runs in his career. He was a solid middle-order batsman in the team that had the likes of Indian internationals Dinesh Karthik, S Badrinath and Abhinav Mukund.
