2024 T20 World Cup: 3 players who starred and 2 who flopped in today's India vs Bangladesh match ft. Hardik Pandya & Suryakumar Yadav
Team India continued their comfortable run in the 2024 T20 World Cup as they beat Bangladesh by 50 runs in Antigua on Saturday, June 22. With the win, they took a massive step towards securing their berth in the semifinals of the tournament.
After Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto elected to bat first, the Men in Blue put up a formidable total of 196, with four batters crossing the 30-run mark. Then, Bangladesh were never in the hunt in the chase and fell well short of the target in the end.
On that note, here are three players who starred and two who flopped in the India vs Bangladesh 2024 T20 World Cup match.
#5 Star - Jasprit Bumrah
Another day, another incredible performance from Jasprit Bumrah. The ace speedster saw Rishabh Pant's drop deny him a wicket early on but still managed to produce a terrific spell of bowling.
Bumrah conceded just 13 runs, including one boundary off the last ball of his spell, in his four overs. He picked up two wickets and always looked threatening, effectively sealing the win with his two overs in the powerplay.
#4 Flop - Axar Patel
Axar Patel was promoted to No. 7 ahead of Ravindra Jadeja, but he couldn't make an impact this time around. He made just three runs off the five balls he faced to finish with the team's lowest strike rate.
While he was good on the field, Axar's two overs went for 26 runs. Bowling him to left-handers was always going to be a risk, and he copped some stick from the Bangladesh lower-middle order as well.
#3 Star - Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya walked away with the Player of the Match award against Bangladesh, and rightfully so.
With India losing a few wickets in quick succession, Hardik needed to get stuck in and take the team to an above-par total. While the all-rounder wasn't at his fluent best, he capitalized against some poor bowling at the death and made an unbeaten 50 off 27 balls.
Hardik also prised out Litton Das with a smart piece of bowling, although the rest of his spell went for runs. When in form, he's one of India's most valuable players in white-ball cricket.
#2 Flop - Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav came into this game on the back of important knocks against Afghanistan and the United States of America. On a better batting wicket, the dynamic batter got off the mark with a six on the first ball.
However, that was it for Suryakumar as he gloved the next ball from Tanzim Hasan Sakib to the wicket-keeper while trying to run the ball down to third man. It wasn't a dismissal that reflected the nature of the wicket and can be chalked down to some poor shot selection and execution from SKY.
#1 Star - Kuldeep Yadav
A player as good as Kuldeep Yadav wasn't going to be kept out of the XI for too long. The left-arm wrist-spinner has picked up five wickets already in the 2024 T20 World Cup, with three of those coming against Bangladesh.
Kuldeep was close to unpickable as he executed perfectly throughout his spell. He dismissed the dangerous Towhid Hridoy and added two other scalps to his name, playing a key role in India dominating the second innings.
