2024 T20 World Cup: Predicting 3 players who could score the most runs in today’s India vs Pakistan match

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will lock horns in a high-profile T20 World Cup 2024 clash at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Saturday, June 5. The two teams have met each other seven times in T20 World Cups, with the Men in Blue coming out on top on five occasions. Pakistan won once during the 2021 T20 World Cup, while the other game ended in a tie with India winning it in Bowl Out.

Both teams have had contrasting starts to this year's T20 World Cup campaign. While India recorded a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Ireland, the Men in Green were stunned by co-hosts America in their opening game. Babar Azam and company went down against the USA in Super Over, making their clash against India extremely crucial to keep their campaign alive.

Rohit Sharma's team, on the other hand, will hope to continue their dominance over Pakistan. They are likely to play with the same playing XI that they fielded against Ireland.

Runs have been hard to come by in this mega event and the wickets in the USA have come in for severe criticisms. The ICC also stated the same, saying that they are trying their best to improve the wicket in New York where India will play against Pakistan.

While bowlers have enjoyed decent success, Rohit showed in the last game that playing good cricketing shots can yield runs on this wicket. He copped a few blows initially and was lucky but once he got his eyes in, the Indian skipper played some delightful shots. Both teams have players who can play good cricketing shots to score runs.

On that note, let's take a look at three players who could score the most runs in today's India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match.

#1 Virat Kohli - India

The former skipper landed in the USA on the back of a delightful IPL 2024 campaign where he finished as the highest runscorer with 741 runs in 15 games. However, Virat Kohli departed cheaply in the opening game against Ireland. He holed out to the third man fielder, scoring only one run off five balls.

Kohli will be desperate to hit the straps against the Men in Green. He also enjoys an excellent record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups, amassing 308 runs in five innings - the most by any player.

#2 Babar Azam - Pakistan

The Pakistan skipper was their best batter in what was otherwise a sorry outing against the USA. On a wicket where batting looked difficult, Babar Azam held one end tightly, scoring 44 runs off 43 balls with the aid of three boundaries and two sixes. He also overtook Kohli to become the all-time leading runscorer in T20Is with 4067 runs from 113 outings.

Babar will hope to keep the form going against the mighty Indians as Pakistan look to bounce back to keep their hope alive in the ongoing T20 World Cup. He has played only two matches against the Men in Blue in T20 World Cups, scoring 68 runs.

#3 Rohit Sharma - India

Rohit Sharma was India's best batter in the last game against Ireland. He scored an excellent half-century on a difficult wicket before being retired hurt after being hit on the shoulder.

As India look to continue their winning run in the quest for their second T20 World Cup trophy, Rohit will look to keep the good work going. The right-handed batter will have to overcome his struggles against left-arm pacers Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi to play a big knock against Pakistan.

Rohit has aggregated 114 runs in 11 matches against the Men in Green at a dismal average of 14.25.
