3 areas where DC's IPL 2025 squad is better than IPL 2024
Delhi Capitals (DC) who are yet to win the elusive Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy, seem to have built one of the most potent squads going into the 2025 season.
It would be fair to say that they are among the teams who had a good auction this time around. While they released their former captain Rishabh Pant earlier, they have made some stellar buys with the likes of KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Starc among others.
With a good set of overseas players and a solid mix of experience and youth as far as Indian players are concerned, DC's IPL 2025 squad seems pretty well-rounded on paper.
With players like KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel in the mix, it remains to be seen as to who the Delhi Capitals will appoint as their captain for the IPL 2025 season, which looks promising for them given how their auction has gone.
They did not have a great campaign last season as they failed to make it to the playoffs. However, they will be keen to bounce back strong this time and aim for their maiden title.
On that note, here are three areas where DC's IPL 2025 squad is better than IPL 2024.
#3 Well-rounded batting unit as compared to IPL 2024
Delhi Capitals, with the likes of David Warner and Jake Fraser-McGurk, appeared too top-heavy last IPL season. However, the batting seems well-rounded and evenly spread this time around with good players of spin and pace.
The likes of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh last season were good players of pace. However, the likes of KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Sameer Rizvi now are good players of spin as well.
Additionally, they have good batting depth this time around. With Ashutosh Sharma, Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel, and Mitchell Starc who can also bat, they have a batting line-up that goes deep.
#2 Solid back-ups and overall bench strength
As compared to last season, the Delhi Capitals have much better backup options this time around. They managed to get Jake Fraser-McGurk back who will open the batting. At the top, they have a solid and proven player in Faf du Plessis as a ready replacement.
They also have the likes of Karun Nair, who is another solid option, given his experience and recent form in the Maharaja Trophy and Vidarbha as well. In Mohit Sharma, who has revived himself in the last few seasons, they have another well-experienced Indian fast bowler who can be a key back-up and gives confidence.
Moreover, they have a bunch of Indian uncapped all-rounders who only add to their bench strength going into this IPL season.
#1 Better fast-bowling attack
One area where the Delhi Capitals seemed to lack last season was their fast bowling attack. Barring Mukesh Kumar, the likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma did not give much confidence.
Anrich Nortje being their overseas pacer was not at his best and did not play the full season either. With Lizaad Williams, Lungi Ngidi, and Rasikh Dar, the fast bowling could have been better.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, they have Mitchell Starc, who brings immense experience and performed well for Kolkata last season. They also have Dushmantha Chameera as his replacement. With T Natarajan and Mukesh Kumar, they have a couple of solid Indian pacers in Darshan Nalkande and Mohit Sharma, they have solid backups as well and a much-better looking pace attack as compared to last season.
