3 Batsmen with the most ducks in ODI cricket
Getting out for a duck is the last thing a batsman wants when he sets foot on the field. Getting off the mark remains the first priority of all batsmen around the world, since nobody wants a 0 in front of their name in the scorecard.
But what is worse than getting out for a duck, is going for a golden duck, which means getting out on the very first delivery faced.
Here we look at three players with the most ducks in ODI cricket:
#3 Mahela Jayawardene and Wasim Akram - 28 ducks
Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene is in joint third place on the list of most ducks in ODI cricket, along with Wasim Akram. Both of them have 28 ducks to their name.
Jayawardene is one of the modern day legends with more than 12,000 runs in his tally at an average of 33.38. His 28 ducks have come from a total of 418 innings.
Akram on the other hand was a bowling all rounder, with more than 3700 runs to his name at an average of 16.52 and a highest score of 86. He has 28 ducks from 280 innings.
#2 Shahid Afridi - 30 ducks
Known for his carefree batting, the Pakistani legend started with a bang in international cricket, with a 37-ball 100. But his carefree style of batting also makes him stand at the second spot in this list, with 30 ducks.
Afridi has over 8,000 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 23.56 with a highest score of 124. His 30 ducks have come from a total of 369 innings.
#1 Sanath Jayasuriya - 34 ducks
Someone who changed the approach of batting for openers forever with his attacking display of batting, the Sri Lankan maestro holds the distinction of most ducks (34) in ODI cricket.
One of the top all-rounders of the game, Jayasuriya had an aggregate of more than 13,000 runs at an average of 32.36 with 28 hundreds to his name. His 34 ducks have come from a total of 433 innings.
Among the ones who are currently playing ODI cricket, Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga are at joint fifth position, with 24 ducks each.
