3 batters who scored back-to-back hundreds in women’s ODIs ft. Smriti Mandhana
India opener Smriti Mandhana has been in fine nick of late, having notched up consecutive tons against South Africa in the ongoing one-day series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While the first came on Sunday, June 16, the second (136) came on Wednesday, June 19.
Her first ton (117) helped India beat their opponents quite comfortably, and they will be hoping to do the same on Wednesday as well.
Mandhana became the first Indian to score consecutive tons in WODIs with this feat and just the second overall after Sandhya Agarwal, who did so in Tests against England in 1986.
We take a look at three batters who have scored back-to-back hundreds in women's ODIs:
#1 Smriti Mandhana
India opener Smriti Mandhana, who is one of the finest batters of her generation, notched up back-to-back tons against South Africa in the ongoing series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Mandhana was in fine nick for India at the top of the order and notched up scores of 117 and 136 against the South Africans in the two matches that she has played so far.
While her first knock helped India pick up a massive 143-run victory over their opponents in the first WODI, the second match is still in progress at the time of writing.
#2 Laura Wolvaardt
Current South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt also finds her name on this list thanks to the two consecutive tons she scored against Sri Lanka women in April.
The first ton she scored was an unbeaten 110 in Kimberley and she matched it up with a stunning 184 not out in Potchefstroom four days later.
Wolvaardt scored both these centuries in the second innings, and these knocks were essential for her team to chase the targets set to them by the Lankans; both of these tons were match-winning knocks from Wolvaardt.
#3 Amy Satterthwaite
Former New Zealand all-rounder Amy Satterthwaite finds her name on this list for an extremely impressive four consecutive centuries she scored in 2016-17. The first three of these came against Pakistan women while the last was against Australia in Auckland.
Her scores read 137*, 115*, 123 and 102* and quite rightly place her in the echelons of the finest batters to have plied their wares in the sport.
Satterthwaite ended her stellar career with 4,639 runs at an average of 38.33 in 145 WODIs and is one of the finest cricketers to have come out of her nation. She retired from international cricket in May 2022.
