3 best bowling performances from GT in IPL 2024
The runners-up of the last season, the Gujarat Titans (GT), finished the IPL 2024 with 12 points from 14 matches. There were slim chances for them to qualify for the playoffs, but their last two games were washed out due to rain.
Under their new captain, Shubman Gill, GT started IPL 2024 on a winning note by defeating the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians. However, throughout the season, GT never won two games in a row, showing inconsistency in their form.
What went wrong for GT was collective performance. There were moments of individual brilliance, but the team intensity was missing. GT didn’t have a decent opening partnership in the entire season, and Mohammed Shami's absence affected their bowling. Also, a below-par season for Rashid Khan meant their bowling attack looked undercooked.
However, GT tried several bowling combinations throughout the tournament, and their bowlers delivered on certain occasions. In this article, we will look at the top three bowling spells from GT in the IPL 2024.
Top 3 bowling performances from GT in IPL 2024
#3 Mohit Sharma once again shows his class (3/25)
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) won the toss and chose to bat first in the 12th match of the IPL 2024. Almost every SRH batter got a start, but they couldn’t reach a big score, and timely strikes from GT bowlers didn’t help their cause.
Mohit Sharma led the charge for GT as he took three important wickets and conceded only 25 runs in four overs, helping the Titans restrict SRH to 162.
In response, GT faced no issues as Sai Sudharsan (45) and David Miller (44*) played sensible knocks to guide the Titans to a victory with five wickets remaining.
#2 Sandeep Warrier shines with the new ball (3/15)
GT faced the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 40th match at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Titans won the toss and opted to bowl first, and Sandeep Warrier didn’t disappoint his captain. Courtesy of Warrier, GT took three wickets in the powerplay, making a strong start to the game.
However, things went out of their hands after the powerplay, as Rishabh Pant (88*) and Axar Patel (66) dominated the rest of the GT bowlers. A cameo from Tristan Stubbs (26 off 7 balls) helped DC post a total of 224 runs.
In the second inning, Sai Sudharsan (65) and David Miller (55) battled for GT. But it was Mukesh Kumar who kept his calm, defending 19 runs in the last over as GT fell short by four, handing DC an important win.
#1 A night to remember for Sai Kishore (4/33)
Punjab Kings (PBKS) won the toss and chose to bat first in the 37th match of IPL 2024. However, things didn’t go their way as they were bowled out on 142 runs, courtesy of some amazing spin bowling by Sai Kishore.
The GT bowler took four wickets and conceded only 33 runs in his spell, denting PBKS's hopes of reaching a high total. He was well supported by Noor Ahmed and Mohit Sharma, who took two wickets each.
Meanwhile, for Gujarat, Shubhman Gill (35) and Sai Sudharsan (31) played well. However, it was Rahul Tewatia, who took GT over the line. The Indian batter remained unbeaten on 36 of 18 balls, guiding the Titans to a decent win.
