3 best bowling performances in PBKS-MI matches in IPL ft. Marcus Stoinis

Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

Hosts Punjab Kings are coming into this game after losing their last match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Batting first, PBKS only managed to score 147 runs; however, their bowlers did bring them into the game. Rajasthan needed 10 runs off the final over, and Shimron Hetmyer got them over the line, handing another defeat to the Kings.

Punjab are currently eighth on the points table, having won only two matches from six games.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians are ninth on the points table. MI lost their last game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) while chasing a target of 207 runs. Former MI captain Rohit Sharma stood tall and scored a brilliant century; however, he didn’t receive support from the other end as MI fell short by 20 runs.

Meanwhile, if we look at the head-to-head record, the two teams have faced off 31 times. MI have managed to come out on top 16 times, while the Kings have defeated Mumbai 15 times.

In response, Shikhar Dhawan led the way for the Mumbai Indians, as he scored a fifty. He was well supported by Saurabh Tiwary, who scored 31 runs, guiding Mumbai to a victory by four wickets with three balls remaining. Lasith Malinga was also declared the Man of the Match for his spell.


#2 Brilliant spell of bowling by Marcus Stoinis in IPL 2016 (4/15)

Match 43 of IPL 2016 pitted the Mumbai Indians against Kings XI Punjab. MI won the toss and elected to bat first; however, things didn’t go in their favor as they only managed to score 124 runs in 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis led the charge for Punjab and took four important wickets (Nitish Rana, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, and Krunal Pandya) to put his team in a strong position.

In response, Punjab captain Murali Vijay and Wriddhiman Saha scored half-centuries, guiding Punjab to an easy victory. Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis won the Man of the Match award for his brilliant bowling display.


#1 Munaf Patel took his first IPL fifer against Punjab (5/21) in 2011

Punjab faced MI in Match 54 of IPL 2011 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali. Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl first, and Munaf Patel led the charge for MI. The former Indian World Cup-winning pacer took five wickets and conceded only 21 runs in his spell of four overs, as Punjab only managed to score 163 runs.

However, the Mumbai Indians lost the match by 76 runs as they were bowled out on 87 runs. Bhargav Bhatt took four wickets, while Praveen Kumar picked up two scalps for Punjab, guiding them to a brilliant win. Even though Munaf Patel ended up on the losing side, his spell remains one of the best in Punjab-Mumbai matches.
