3 best catches in India-Pakistan ODI World Cup matches since 2010 ft. Haris SohailÂ
India-Pakistan ODI World Cup matches understandably receive a lot of attention from the cricket community.
People from all over the world stop what they are doing and watch this match live from wherever they are. A new chapter will be written in the India-Pakistan rivalry on Saturday, October 14, in Ahmedabad.
The two arch-rivals will clash at the world's largest cricket stadium for the eighth time in ODI World Cup history. India have won all seven matches against Pakistan on the biggest stage in one-day cricket, and are the favorites to win this upcoming contest as well.
One of the main reasons behind India's success against Pakistan is better performance in the fielding department. While good batting and bowling help the teams win matches, top-quality fielding is a major reason behind a team repeatedly beating an opponent.
The pressure in India-Pakistan ODI World Cup matches is on a completely different level to any other game. Fans have seen even the best fielders drop catches at this level, but in this listicle, we will look at the top three catches in this rivalry since the year 2010.
#1 Haris Sohail keeps his eyes on the ball till the last second, India-Pakistan 2015 World Cup match
Adelaide Oval played host to a group stage match between India and Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup. India batted first and raced to 284/3 in the 48th over, thanks to a ton from Virat Kohli.
A well-set Suresh Raina was batting in the middle with the dangerous MS Dhoni and it seemed like India would finish with a score of 320-330. However, Haris Sohail took a magnificent catch to send Raina back to the dressing room in the 48th over. India collapsed and managed to score only 300 in their 50 overs.
Raina mistimed an aerial shot off Sohail Khan's bowling. The ball went high up in the air towards the leg-side, where Haris Sohail covered some distance and eventually caught the ball. You can watch the catch from the 1:59 mark in the above video.
#2 MS Dhoni almost travels to fine leg region to take a catch, India-Pakistan 2015 World Cup match
Later in the same match, Younus Khan misjudged a short delivery from Mohammed Shami. He attempted a half-hearted pull, which got some height but not enough distance.
At first, it seemed like the ball would land in no man's land, but wicketkeeper MS Dhoni covered the distance quickly and grabbed the ball in excellent fashion. You can watch the video at 2:50 mark in the above clip.
#3 Shahid Afridi's catch to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar, India-Pakistan 2011 World Cup semifinal
Sachin Tendulkar stepped up and delivered the goods for India in the 2011 World Cup semifinal against Pakistan. The "Master Blaster" scored 85 runs before handing a catch to Shahid Afridi in the covers.
Afridi took a perfect low catch and had a big smile on his face because Pakistan missed six chances to dismiss Tendulkar before that. Four of them were dropped catches and one was a close stumping, while the other was an LBW call reversed by DRS.
