3 best RTM candidates for GT at the IPL 2025 auction ft. Mohammed Shami
After reaching the final in consecutive editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022 and 2023, the Gujarat Titans (GT) endured an underwhelming campaign in the previous season. Under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill after losing Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians, the 2022 champions were off the mark on all fronts.
The Titans missed out on the playoffs and were never really in the hunt to make the top four. Despite that, however, they are in a good position going forward and have retained some key players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan have been retained by Gujarat. Having exhausted both their uncapped retention slots, they now have one capped RTM card to be used on November 24 and 25.
On that note, here are the three best RTM candidates for GT at the IPL 2025 auction.
#3 David Miller
David Miller hasn't been in the best of form of late, and signs indicate that he might be on the decline. However, overseas middle-order batters with as much experience and power as the South African will be hard to find, and there's reason to believe that he still has plenty left in the tank.
As a left-hander who is solid against both pace and spin, with him having made significant improvements in the latter department over the last few years, Miller will still be in high demand at the IPL 2025 auction.
He is one of the few players who have been dependable for GT over the last three years, and bringing him back seems like a viable option even though he is on the wrong side of 30.
#2 Mohammed Shami
There's a question mark surrounding Mohammed Shami as well. The fast bowler is on the comeback trail after spending a significant amount of time out with an ankle injury, and there are doubts over whether he will be anywhere close to his deadly best once he hits the top level again.
However, that might just be a risk GT will have to take. Shami has been deadly under the lights in Ahmedabad, and his powerplay exploits have been one of the biggest reasons behind the Titans having consecutive final appearances in 2022 and 2023.
Shami's absence was sorely felt in 2024, and Ashish Nehra is likely to have plenty of faith in the fast bowler.
#1 Noor Ahmad
Noor Ahmad formed an important spin partnership with his national teammate Rashid Khan in IPL 2024. He has only gone from strength to strength since then and had a sensational campaign in the Caribbean Premier League.
Noor is a player with immense potential. Not only can he bowl across stages and to all matchups, but he also possesses a bit of lower-order hitting ability. Any team will be lucky to have him, especially one like GT, who don't play at a spin-friendly home venue and need their slower bowlers to be high-quality options.
