3 best RTM candidates for SRH at the IPL 2025 auction ft. Abdul Samad
The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) were one of the teams to watch out for in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Although they fell at the final hurdle, losing the summit clash to the Kolkata Knight Riders, they played an exciting brand of cricket throughout the competition and finished in the top two.
Understandably, SRH have retained their most important players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been retained by the Orange Army, giving them ₹45 crore to spend at the auction.
Hyderabad have one RTM card that can be used on an uncapped player, and their options are rather limited in that department. That said, however, there are a few names they might be keen on reacquiring.
On that note, here are the three best RTM candidates for SRH at the IPL 2025 auction.
#3 Abdul Samad
Abdul Samad has been part of SRH for quite a while now and was even retained ahead of the last mega auction in 2022. However, the young batter hasn't quite bloomed in the way the franchise would have wanted him to.
Samad hasn't scored more than 200 runs in any of his five IPL seasons, and his bowling, which was once talked about heavily, hasn't improved by a great margin. Nevertheless, he had his best campaign till date in 2024, with 182 runs at a strike rate of 168.52, and could be on course to turn his fortunes around.
With options being limited for SRH and finishers being hard to find on the market, we could see them bring back Samad via the RTM card.
#2 Anmolpreet Singh
26-year-old Anmolpreet Singh played only two matches for SRH in IPL 2024. He managed just five runs across those two outings and lost his place in the side.
However, Anmolpreet might still be sought after by SRH at the 2025 auction. As a top-order batter who can hit spin well, the right-hander might be a budget pick for a team that will likely struggle to bring back the likes of Rahul Tripathi and Mayank Agarwal.
Anmolpreet is also a player who can don the gloves if needed. In an ideal world, Hyderabad wouldn't have to struggle to acquire his services once again, but with Indian batting options in high demand, they might have to resort to the RTM card.
#1 Mayank Markande
Leg-spinner Mayank Markande is easily the best candidate to be RTMed by SRH at the IPL 2025 auction. He played an important role for the Orange Army in 2024, although he was in and out of the side at times.
The SunRisers will definitely need to secure a frontline wrist-spin option, and their budget might put them out of the reckoning for the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal. Moreover, they likely won't have an overseas slot in the XII to use on bowlers like Noor Ahmad and Maheesh Theekshana.
Markande is thus the obvious choice to be bought back by SRH. As a talented bowler who now qualifies as an uncapped player, he could come cheap in the later sets of the IPL 2025 auction.
