3 controversies involving Shakib Al Hasan
Known for his aggressive batting and deceptive bowling, Shakib Al Hasan is undoubtedly the best all-rounder Bangladesh cricket has ever produced and he is currently regarded as one of the best all-rounders in world cricket.
Shakib has represented over 10 domestic teams across the world - the first Bangladeshi cricketer to do so.
Even though a regular member of the team when fit, Shakib has found himself on the sidelines quite often due to injuries and suspensions. Lack of temperament and heated arguments with match officials have also tarnished his image somewhat.
Let us look at 3 controversial incidents involving the great all-rounder.
#3 Calling the batsmen off the field - Nidahas Trophy 2018
The incident happened in the final over of the Bangladesh innings, when the visitors required 12 runs to win. Unhappy with the umpire's decision to not signal a no-ball, Shakib waved his hands from the boundary and asked the batsmen to come off the field.
The match officials diffused the situation, the game went on and Bangladesh chased down the total, registering a famous victory and cementing their place in the finals of the Nidahas Trophy.
For his unsporting behaviour, Shakib was fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point by the International Cricket Council. Shakib pleaded guilty and also admitted that he went overboard with his behaviour, assuring he would be careful next time.
