3 CSK batters to have scored multiple hundreds in the IPL ft. Ruturaj Gaikwad
With 12 playoff appearances and five titles, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the most successful side in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni led the side to success until 2023 with his tactical mindset and giving his players a longer rope to prove themselves.
When a captain has trust in any player, he is bound to be confident with his skills and perform better in crunch moments. That's what happened to the Chennai-based outfit, whose players have demonstrated all-round brilliance all through these years.
On the batting front, many legendary players have donned CSK jerseys like Suresh Raina, Michael Hussey, Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, and Murali Vijay, among others.
On that note, let's take a look at three players, who have registered multiple hundreds for 'Men in Yellow' in the cash-rich league.
#1 Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay represented the Chennai-based franchise from 2009-13. During his stint, the opening batter helped the team to lift titles in the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Vijay's first century came against the Rajasthan Royals in the 2010 season. He slammed 127 off 56, with eight fours and 11 maximums to boost CSK to their highest-ever total of 246. In response, the Royals lost the game by 23 runs.
The 2012 season witnessed Vijay again being inconsistent but managed to reach the three-figure mark on one occasion against the Delhi Capitals in a Qualifier game.
Led by Vijay's impressive knock of 123 off 56, CSK set a target of 223 for Delhi, who were bundled out for just 136.
2) Ruturaj Gaikwad
Making his debut in 2020, Ruturaj Gaikwad shot to fame in the 2021 season. He amassed 635 runs at an average of 45.35 to clinch the Orange Cap.
Gaikwad's best knock of 101* off 60 came against the Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi. Although the Super Kings posted a formidable total of 189, the Royals chased down the score in the 18th over.
The talented batter scored his second IPL century on April 23, 2024, against the Lucknow Super Giants. He remained unbeaten on 108 off 60, with 12 fours and three sixes to lead CSK to 210.
3) Shane Watson
One of the finest all-rounders in the shortest format, Shane Watson represented the Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 20. Certainly, Watson enjoyed his time in the 2018 season, as he scored two centuries.
The first one came against the Rajasthan Royals in 2018, where his contribution of 104 off 57 balls paved the way for Chennai to post 204 and win the game by 64 runs.
Watson delivered his finest knock in the IPL 2018 final against the SunRisers Hyderabad. Chasing 179, Watson smoked 117 off 57 balls, with 11 fours and eight sixes and ultimately helped CSK to seal the chase in 18.3 overs.
