3 former CSK players who are now with GT in IPL 2023

The picture for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is set with four teams making it through to the next round. Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and the Mumbai Indians are the four teams who have made it through to the playoffs and will be fighting it out for the ultimate prize.

On Tuesday (May 23), the focus will be on the top two sides with the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings going head-to-head in Qualifier 1. The winner of that game progresses straight to the final, while the loser will await the winner of the Eliminator between LSG and MI.

GT and CSK have a combined five IPL titles between then. Chennai have four of them, of course, while Gujarat won the title in their inaugural season in 2022. Now, these two are set to fight it out in what should be a cracking encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.

When these two sides meet, the focus is usually on the master and the apprentice as MS Dhoni takes on Hardik Pandya. There are also a few GT players who will be returning to what used to be their former home ground while playing for the Super Kings in the past.

On that note, we take a look at three former CSK players who are now with the Gujarat Titans.

Vijay Shankar made his debut in the IPL while representing the Chennai Super Kings in 2014. The all-rounder from Tamil Nadu played a solitary game for the side in that season, starting against the Rajasthan Royals.

While his debut outing wasn't the most memorable with him conceding 19 runs off the only over he bowled, Shankar has gone on to achieve bigger and better things. He represented his country at the international level and was also part of GT's title-winning squad last year.

#2 Wriddhiman Saha

The veteran wicketkeeper played for the Chennai Super Kings between 2011-2013. Wriddihman Saha only played 14 matches for CSK, only getting a chance to bat in seven of those games.

He scored 114 runs in his time there before moving to the Punjab Kings. He then moved to the Sunrisers Hyderabad before eventually ending up at the Gujarat Titans, playing a vital role for them at the top of the order since IPL 2022.

#3 Mohit Sharma

The medium pacer made his debut in the IPL with CSK in 2013 and was a key member of the successful side. Mohit Sharma played for them for three seasons before returning to the team in 2019. He also went to represent India in that phase of his career.

Now, Mohit has returned to the mix with the Titans and is on his way to script a fairytale comeback. He has taken 17 wickets in 11 matches this season and is a valuable member of the GT side as they look to defend their IPL title.
