Ashwin announced his arrival on the international stage by picking up 9 wickets in his debut Test match against West Indies in the year 2011 at the famous Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi.

He picked up six wickets in the second innings of the Test match. The off-spinner finished the game with the figures of 9 for 128.
