It is always an honor for a cricketer to represent their country on the cricket field. The players give their 100% while playing at the international level, and it is always a special feeling if they are awarded government posts in return for their contributions.

There are a few Indian cricketers who have been awarded posts in the police force during their playing days or post their retirements.

On that note, here is a look at three Indian cricketers who were awarded posts in the police force:


#1 Mohammed Siraj

The Indian pace spearhead was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) under the supervision of the Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana on October 11, 2024. Siraj has taken charge as DSP with effect from the said date.

Apart from the post of DSP, Siraj has been allotted a house site, measuring 600 sq. yards at Road No. 79, Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad.

Siraj is an integral part of the Indian bowling line-up and is a regular member of the Indian team in all three formats. He was a part of the Indian squad that won the coveted T20 World Cup 2024. As far as stats are concerned, the pacer has bagged 163 international wickets across formats.


#2 Joginder Sharma

Joginder Sharma was the unsung hero for Team India during the final of the T20 World Cup 2007. He bowled the epic last over in the said final and bowled India to a win against Pakistan.

Post the T20 World Cup 2007, Sharma strangely did not feature in any international game for India. He featured in the IPL till 2011.

He joined Haryana Police during his playing days and is currently the DSP in Haryana Police, serving the nation.


#3 Deepti Sharma

Deepti Sharma is an integral part of the Indian Women's team. The 27-year-old all-rounder has played 224 international games for India across formats and is currently a part of the Indian Women's squad playing the T20 World Cup 2024 in UAE.

Sharma, due to her all-round performances, has single-handedly won a few games for her country. Recognizing her performances in the Asian Games 2023 (India won a gold medal) and Commonwealth Games 2022 (India won a silver medal), Sharma was appointed as DSP in UP Police.

On being appointed DSP, Sharma said in a PTI video:

"I always dreamt of becoming a police officer. I used to see that it is a difficult job but I always wanted to wear that uniform once and wanted to see how it felt."
