3 marquee players Delhi Capitals should target in IPL 2025 auction ft. Shreyas Iyer
The Delhi Capitals (DC) are one of the franchises to watch out for in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, scheduled on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. Having released their skipper, Rishabh Pant, ahead of the auction, the franchise will be on the hunt for a new skipper.
The franchise have retained Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Abishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs ahead of the auction and have a sum of ₹73 crores going into the IPL 2025 auction.
On that note, here are three marquee players DC should target in the IPL 2025 auction.
#1 Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer is no stranger to the Capitals. He played seven seasons for the Dellhi franchise before shifting base to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022.
Iyer started his IPL career with the Delhi franchise and they invested a lot in the youngster during his early playing days. DC have released Rishabh Pant ahead of the IPL 2025 auction and will be looking for a new skipper for the upcoming IPL season. Iyer perfectly fits the bill having led the franchise before.
Under Iyer's captaincy, KKR won the coveted IPL trophy in 2024 and the skipper was exceptional with his leadership skills.
Iyer has played 116 IPL matches across nine IPL seasons, averaging a decent 32.24 with the bat, and has a strike rate of 127.48. In IPL 2024, he had a strike rate of almost 147.
Thus, considering his vast experience of playing the IPL and his prior association with the franchise, Iyer could be the first marquee player on the wishlist of DC.
#2 Jos Buttler
The Rajasthan Royals surprisingly did not retain Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. The English white-ball skipper boasts of an impressive IPL record. In nine IPL seasons, the wicketkeeper-batter has an astounding strike rate of 147.53 and has scored 3,582 runs in 106 innings.
Buttler is an aggressive opener at the top of the order and has scored seven IPL centuries and 19 half-centuries. He won the coveted Orange Cap during IPL 2022.
DC have released the Aussie duo of David Warner and Jake Fraser McGurk ahead of the auction and will look for an aggressive batter at the top of the order. Buttler perfectly fits the bill and could be on the wishlist of the DC franchise ahead of the auction day.
#3 Mohammed Siraj
DC have not retained any pacer ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Siraj could be one of the pacers the franchise could target in the IPL 2025 auction.
Siraj was a part of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024. Delhi have retained Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, who were also a part of the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup 2024. If they manage to rope in the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricketer in the auction, their bowling lineup comprising Axar, Kuldeep, and Siraj will be a formidable one.
Siraj was an integral part of the Royal Challengers outfit since 2019 after spending his first two seasons with the SunRisers Hyderabad. He has picked up 93 IPL wickets in as many matches and is an asset with the new ball and at the death.
