3 marquee players SRH should target in IPL 2025 auction ft. KL Rahul
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a dream run at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season as they made it to the final. While they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders and ended as runners-up eventually, they put up strong performances throughout the season.
SRH have retained a strong core from the last season, including the likes of Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
While they have undoubtedly made strong retentions and set their base right, SRH will have their cask cut out at the IPL 2025 mega auction to build a balanced and complete squad.
Out of the available marquee players at the auction, the Hyderabad franchise will have to target certain players who can fill in the gaps. While they have their opening combination set, they will need to focus on building their middle-order and bowling attack.
Here are three players they should go after at the upcoming mega auction.
3 marquee players SRH should target in IPL 2025 auction
#3 Mohammed Siraj
Sunrisers Hyderabad retained skipper and pacer Pat Cummins. However, they released all of their other pacers, including Indians such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Umran Malik, and T Natarajan.
They will therefore need an experienced Indian pacer who can lead the attack alongside Pat Cummins. Mohammed Siraj brings in the experience of having played in the IPL for several seasons as well as for India at the international level.
Siraj has also played his domestic cricket for Hyderabad and being a local boy, would be well versed with the conditions at home, which is another plus point. Siraj could fit in well and Hyderabad should go after the fast bowler in the auction.
#2 David Miller
SRH have firepower at the top of the order with their opening combination set. However, they will have to strengthen the rest of the batting. Heinrich Klaasen was phenomenal lower down the order last season.
Hyderabad will have to find another batter who could provide them with the firepower and finishing abilities to accompany Klaasen down the order. Fellow South African David Miller could be a viable option.
While Miller's recent form in the IPL may not be convincing enough, he brings more than enough international experience and has the capability to turn games around on his own.
#1 KL Rahul
The Hyderabad franchise has Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head at the top, who form a lethal opening duo. However, they have released batters from their squad such as Rahul Tripathi and Mayank Agarwal.
They will require someone in the middle who can provide stability and carry the middle order of their batting. KL Rahul, released by the Lucknow Super Giants, should be someone they should target at the upcoming auction.
KL Rahul will be looking for a fresh role and he could bat at No.3 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rahul has been a consistent run-getter in the IPL and with all his international experience, he could fit in well.
Additionally, Rahul also provides the option of a backup wicket-keeper for Heinrich Klaasen should the need arise.
