3 milestones achieved by India during massive win vs Zimbabwe in 4th T20I
India outplayed Zimbabwe in the 4th T20I at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, July 13. Led by captain Shubman Gill, the Men in Blue secured a convincing 10-wicket win.
This dominant performance helped them take an unassailable lead of 3-1 in the five-match T20I series as well. Batting first, Zimbabwe put up a fighting total of 152/7 on the board. Sikandar Raza top-scored with an unbeaten 28-ball 46 at the backend.
However, the target did not prove to be enough as Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill made a mockery of the chase. The duo gave the opposition bowlers a proper bashing, scaling down the target in just 15.2 overs, and stitching an unbeaten 156-run stand.
Following this massive victory over Zimbabwe, the visitors achieved some key milestones as well, making it a remarkable win.
#3 Highest unbeaten stand in a chase for India
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have etched their names in the record books for the highest unbeaten partnership for India in a T20I run-chase.
Their formidable 156-run stand against Zimbabwe in Harare, 2024, surpassed the previous best record which was set by Mandeep Singh and KL Rahul with their unbeaten 103-run stand.
Coincidentally, Mandeep and Rahul set this record at the very same venue, against the very same opposition, back in June 2016.
Gill and Jaiswal's stand is also the fifth 150-plus opening stand for the Men in Blue in T20Is.
#2 5th instance of a 150+ chase without losing a wicket
This is only the fifth instance in T20I history where a target of 150 or more has been chased down by an opposition without losing a single wicket.
India scaled down the 153-run target with ten wickets to spare courtesy of classy unbeaten knocks of 93 from Yashasvi Jaiswal and 58 from Shubman Gill.
Previously, Pakistan chased down a target of 200 runs against England in Karachi in 2022 without losing a wicket. In 2016 at Hamilton, New Zealand achieved this feat by chasing down a target of 169 runs against Pakistan.
In 2022, England thrashed India by ten wickets, scaling down a 169-run target in Adelaide. Pakistan have recorded this feat twice, beating India by ten wickets chasing 152 in Dubai in 2021.
#1 Most balls remaining
Gill and Co. beat Zimbabwe in the 4th T20I of the series, chasing down 153 with 28 balls to spare along with all 10 wickets intact.
This is the highest margin of victory for the nation in terms of balls to spare (in a successful 150+ run chase).
The previous record was a win with 26 balls remaining against Bangladesh in Rajkot in 2019, with the target being 154, and 26 balls remaining against Afghanistan as well in Indore in 2024 with the target being 173.
The next two best instances are a win against West Indies in Lauderhill in 2023 (target:179, balls remaining:18) and a win against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala in 2022 (target:184, balls remaining: 17).
