3 milestones achieved by Travis Head during his 140 vs India in 2nd BGT 2024-25 Test
Travis Head and India are a match made in heaven. From the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad to the ICC World Test Championship final at the Oval to today (December 7) at the Adelaide Oval, the short-height dynamo has always proved to be a barrier for India.
With the pink ball on offer under the lights, the batters are always under the pump. But not Head. The Adelaide-born cricketer went shoulder to shoulder against the Indian bowling attack, comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
He came out to bat amid huge cheers, and when he returned after a stellar 140 off 141 deliveries, the entire Adelaide Oval stadium stood up in unison to bow down to the local boy. His knock was laced with 17 boundaries and four towering sixes and he struck at a rate of 99.29.
Head broke several records during his flamboyant innings on Day 2 of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at the Adelaide. On that note, let's take a look at three milestones Travis Head broke during his mammoth knock.
#1 Travis Head recorded the fastest 100 in day-night Tests
While the pink ball has turned out to be a demon for batters under the lights, the South Australian batter seemed to have adjusted well, scoring three centuries already.
The left-hander scored his third hundred today off just 111 deliveries after nudging a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery for a single. This is the fastest century recorded in day-night Tests.
He broke his own record of scoring the fastest day-night Test ton off 112 balls against England in Hobart in 2022. Head also holds the third-fastest century having achieved the feat off 125 deliveries against the West Indies in Adelaide in 2022.
#2 Travis Head now has the second-most centuries in day-night Tests
With the blistering 140 against India in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test in Adelaide, Head now has three centuries in pink-ball Tests. He now has the second-most hundreds in day-night games.
His teammate Marnus Labuschagne occupies the top spot with four hundreds in pink-ball Tests. Pakistan's Asad Shafiq and Sri Lanka's Dimuth Karunaratne occupy the third and fourth spots, respectively, with two hundreds.
#3 Head now has the third-most sixes against India in Tests
The southpaw smashed four towering sixes en route to his 140 off 141 deliveries on Day 2 of the second Test. With that, Travis Head now has hit 12 sixes against India in the red-ball format, which puts him in the third spot among the Aussie batters.
Head eclipsed former wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist, who has 10 sixes under his belt, to sit in third place. Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden occupies the top spot in the list for most sixes hit by Aussie batters with 24. Former skipper Michael Clarke occupies the second place with 14 sixes under his belt.
