3 players who were part of India's Test series loss against England in 2012 and against New Zealand in 2024 ft. Virat Kohli
After a long gap of 12 years, India's unbeaten run at home in Tests came to an end as they suffered a 0-2 defeat against New Zealand in the ongoing series with the final game still to be played.
They lost the first Test in Bengaluru as New Zealand won by eight wickets to take an upper hand in the series. India were expected to bounce back strong in Pune, but things just got worse for the hosts as they ended up losing the second Test as well, handing the Kiwis an emphatic 113-run win and the series.
India had won 18 consecutive series at home in the format before the New Zealand series and with this defeat, the unbreakable streak came to an end, putting a halt to the dominant run at home.
The last time India suffered a Test series defeat at home was back in 2012 when they lost 2-1. They won the first game in that series but England made a brilliant comeback to win the next two Tests with the final one ending in a draw.
As the hosts crashed to a rather unexpected series defeat, here are three players who were a part of the Indian team in both these series losses.
3 players who were part of India's Test series loss against England in 2012 and against New Zealand in 2024
#3 Ravindra Jadeja
Among the leading all-rounders in Test cricket not just in India but also across the globe, Ravindra Jadeja was a part of the team that lost the Test series against England back in 2012.
Jadeja played only one match in that series and managed to score 12 runs. He picked up three wickets as well. In the ongoing series against New Zealand in 2024, Jadeja has scored 85 runs from two matches so far with a top score of 42. He has grabbed six wickets with the ball from four innings with best figures of 3/72.
#2 Ravichandran Ashwin
Jadeja's partner in crime, and arguably one of the greatest all-rounders and spinners in Test cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin is another player to be a part of both the series.
Against England in the series in 2012, being an upcoming player back then, Ashwin had a successful series with the ball although the hosts suffered a defeat. He played all four games and picked up 14 wickets. He also scored 243 runs in that series with a best score of an unbeaten 91.
In the current series against New Zealand, Ashwin has managed six wickets and has scored 37 runs from both matches so far.
#1 Virat Kohli
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is the final player on this list who was a part of the team in the Test series loss against England in 2012 and New Zealand in 2024.
Virat did not have much success with the bat against England in 2012. In that series, he played in all four games and across seven innings, mustered only 188 runs. However, he did manage to score a hundred, with his highest score in the series being 103.
His batting in the ongoing series against New Zealand has been under scrutiny. He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the first Test in Bengaluru. Kohli did manage a well-made 70 in the second innings. However, with scores of one and 17 in the second Test, he failed to make significant contributions.
