3 players who will play for SRH in IPL 2025 after being in PBKS in 2024 ft. Harshal Patel
The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) entered into the IPL mega auction held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a lot of retained players in their roster: Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhishek Sharma. However, they managed to snare up quite a few top stars in the auction.
One of the biggest signings SRH made in the auction was that of Harshal Patel, who played formerly for the Punjab Kings in the 2024 edition of the tournament and even won the Purple Cap with 24 wickets. Some other big signings they made were that of Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Shami, and Adam Zampa.
Interestingly, Patel is not the only former PBKS player who will turn out for SRH in the upcoming edition of the tournament. It turned out to be quite an uncanny coincidence as to how this happened. In this listicle, we take a look at three players who will play for SRH in IPL 2025 after being in PBKS in 2024:
#1 Atharva Taide
Atharva Taide is the first player who will turn up for SRH in the upcoming edition of the tournament after having represented PBKS in 2024. The left-handed opener is known for his strokemaking against the new ball and will become a vital player of the Hyderabad-based franchise, especially on the placid tracks of Uppal.
Taide played just two games for PBKS last season and amassed a total of just 61 runs at a strike rate of 156. Hence, it is a tad surprising as to why SRH decided to shell out INR 30 lakh for him in the auction held in Jeddah earlier this month. He will most probably be a part of the SRH bench at the beginning of the season.
#2 Harshal Patel
Seamer Harshal Patel, who is one of the most-respected bowlers in the country, especially in white-ball cricket, will play for SRH in the upcoming season of the IPL. In 2024, he played for PBKS and picked up a whopping 24 wickets.
Patel will be a big addition to the SRH bowling attack in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament and is expected to fill in the gap left by the departure of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The Haryana seamer, who last played for India in a T20I in 2023, has picked up 240 wickets in his T20 career. He bowls at an economy of just over 8 in this format of the game, and will be a prized asset for SRH.
#3 Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar is another player who will represent SRH in IPL 2025 after jumping ship from PBKS. The leg-spinner, who is known for bowling with a decent pace in the middle overs of a T20 game, picked up 14, 8 and 10 wickets respectively in the three seasons he played for the Mohali-based franchise.
Chahar, who is playing for Rajasthan in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, has played in one ODI and six T20Is for India so far, and will be quite useful for SRH in 2025. The 25-year-old has the ability to bowl flippers as well as googlies on a regular basis and this makes him quite difficult to get under.
SRH will want to use him as the replacement for Washington Sundar and ask him to essay the role the Tamil Nadu all-rounder used to play with the new ball. Although he is a leggie and may not be expected to display much control inside the powerplay, it is certainly an idea to tinker with.
