3 reasons why India hosting the SA20 will be an enterprising idea

Former South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher recently said that holding the SA20 League in India sometime in the future might be a good idea.

Boucher elaborated upon how important it is for countries to have their own franchise leagues as it allows them to promote young talent and give them exposure against quality opponents.

The legendary wicketkeeper, who is currently the coach of the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, drew several comparisons between the two leagues. He also commended the BCCI for creating such an enthralling product.

In this listicle, we give you three reasons why India hosting the SA20 sometime in the future will be an enterprising idea.

#1 Indian players may play in it

One of the biggest draws of the SA20 League being held in India is that players of the host country may take part in it.

The host country's board, the BCCI, may be enticed enough to allow its contracted players to take part in the league although it is predominantly meant for developing South African talent.

Even if the BCCI chooses to not allow its first-team players to participate in it, the ones on the fringes of national selection can be given a No-Objection Certificate to do so.

This will allow the latter to gain experience in playing against different opposition and get some much-needed match practice.

#2 Broadcasting and merchandising revenue will go up

Given the population that India has, it is only natural for the revenue that the SA20 League earns from the broadcasting and merchandising industries to go up exponentially.

This will, in turn, help Cricket South Africa (CSA) to plough money back into domestic cricket in the country and pay their contracted players better.

If the latter takes place, there will be no problem for the top cricketers of the country to prioritize Test cricket over T20 franchise leagues across the world.

Overall, this has the potential to reduce the financial inadequacy that CSA is going through at the moment.

#3 Sell-out crowds will ensure revenue from tickets

Gate money, which is one of the highest earners for a cricket tournament, will add a flood of revenue to Cricket South Africa if they choose to host the SA20 League in India.

India has venues that have massive capacity, and if they can fill them, a lot of revenue can be generated.

No matter what revenue-sharing program the BCCI and the CSA have in place, this will be exponentially more than what can be earned in South Africa, where the biggest ground - the Wanderers in Johannesburg - can hold just 34,000 people.

India can prove to be an excellent host for the SA20 League, and this is a deal that will help both countries.
