3 teams who should target David Miller in IPL 2025 auction ft. RCB
David Miller will be among the finest overseas players available in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. With a base price of ₹2 crore, he is a part of the 12-player strong marquee list.
Miller represented the Gujarat Titans over the last three editions. Although the southpaw scored 210 runs in nine games in IPL 2024, he could not leave a big enough impact, as the team failed to reach the playoffs. He was subsequently released from the squad ahead of the auctions.
The veteran batter was also impressive in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. He scored 268 runs at a strike rate of 162.42, with a top score of 71*.
With a reputation for dismantling opposition in the death overs, Miller is expected to gain significant attention from multiple franchises in the auction. On that note, let’s take a look at a few franchises that could target Miller on D-day.
#3 Gujarat Titans (GT)
The southpaw played for the Gujarat Titans in the last three editions and amassed 950 runs in 41 games. In 2022, he slammed 481 runs and helped the side win the championship. But, the Titans decided to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
With the Gujarat-based side retaining top-order batters like Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, they need an explosive finisher to pair up with Shahrukh Khan. Miller perfectly fits the bill and has played alongside the Tamil Nadu batter. Last year, the duo stitched a 61-run stand to help the team post 147 against Royal Challenges Bengaluru.
Moreover, the 35-year-old has a terrific record at Narendra Modi Stadium. He has scored 308 runs at an average of 44 and a strike rate of around 155 in 15 games. The Titans could likely use an RTM card to bring him back into the setup.
#2 Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru decided to retain only two batters - Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar. Both are expected to bat in the top three positions, leaving them with the task of constructing a solid middle order.
In their pursuit of quality middle-order batters, RCB can bid for David Miller, who would be devastating in a small ground like M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Interestingly, while playing for Punjab Kings, he slammed 66 off 29 against RCB at the same venue in 2014.
Over the years, the Bengaluru-based side have desired for a consistent run-scorer in the middle order. Along with helping the team recover from a precarious position, the left-hander can provide a flourish at the death too.
#1 Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab Kings retained only two players in the form of Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. They are expected to invest heavily in securing the services of an experienced finisher.
David Miller has been one of the finest players to have played for the Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab). In 79 games, he garnered 1,850 runs at a strike rate of 138.78, with nine centuries. He parted ways after the 2019 season, and has since represented Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans.
In the 2014 season, Miller slammed 446 runs in 16 games to help the team emerge as the runners-up. Looking at his credible record for PBKS (previously KXIP), he could find interest from the team management in the auction.
