3 teams who should target Devon Conway in IPL 2025 Auction ft. Mumbai Indians

Devon Conway, who was one of the most crucial cogs in the Chennai Super Kings wheel in the Indian Premier League, will enter the 2025 season's auction as a free agent. He was released by his franchise ahead of the mega auction.

Having played two seasons for the Yellow Brigade in 2022 and 2023, Conway has notched up 924 runs in 23 matches at an average of 48.63. He was, unfortunately, ruled out of the 2024 edition with a thumb injury and replaced by Richard Gleeson.

However, Conway will not be short of takers in the upcoming auction on November 24 and 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, given that his strike rate is a whopping 141.28 in the IPL, and he has scored nine half-centuries with a highest of 92 not out.

In this listicle, we take a look at three teams that should target Conway in the auction:

#1 Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) should try to get Conway in the auction as he can add a lot of value to them at the top of the order. Having retained just one foreigner in Tristan Stubbs, DC have the wherewithal to purchase Conway.

DC will be keen on building their squad from scratch, and very few players will give them value for their money than Conway. The Kiwi will also be a handy addition behind the stumps mentoring young Abhishek Porel.

Conway will be a decent fit into the Feroz Shah Kotla (Arun Jaitley Stadium) in which DC play their home matches. Known for taking on bowlers inside the powerplay and playing aerial shots, Conway will be a huge hit amongst the Delhi crowd, who like their cricketers to be large-hearted.

#2 Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians (MI), keen on bringing an opener who can partner Rohit Sharma at the auction, will have their eyes set on Conway. The 33-year-old must have impressed them with his abilities against both spin and pace.

If MI are looking to add more depth to their top-order batting, Conway is the perfect player, who can play the role that Quinton de Kock used to play for them till the 2021 edition of the cash-rich tournament.

Conway can be the ideal foil to Sharma and allow the latter to express himself without any restraint whatsoever. His good ability of playing spin will come in more than handy on the baked Wankhede Stadium tracks.

#3 Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who have retained just three players - Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal and Rajat Patidar - have the purse to make big signings in the upcoming auction, and Conway can be one of those.

The Kiwi will be looked at by the RCB management as an all-round cricketer who can open the innings alongside former skipper Virat Kohli and add a safe pair of hands behind the stumps, ala AB de Villiers till the 2021 season.

Conway can strike up a good rapport with Kohli at the top of the order and also present RCB with an option for inspirational leadership. Moreover, he has already won the Bengaluru fans over with his 91 in the first Test against India in October.
