3 things LSG need to do right to beat MI in IPL 2024 clash
The Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 67th match of IPL 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium on May 17, Friday. MI are out of the playoff race, while LSG still have a ray of hope of making it to the top four if they win tonight and other results go in their favor.
While LSG come into this game on the back of a defeat in the hands of the Delhi Capitals, MI were beaten by the Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous game.
MI will have an advantage in this game given that they are playing at home, but LSG will do everything in their power to turn it in their favor.
In this listicle, we take a look at three things LSG need to do right to beat MI in this game and move upwards in the league table.
#1 LSG should bowl well with the new ball
One of the things that did not go well for LSG in their previous game against DC was that they did not bowl too well with the new ball.
Restricting MI's top-order batters in the powerplay is going to be a challenging task on Friday, but LSG need to do that well.
If they allow the likes of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav to get going inside the powerplay when the fielding restrictions are on, they might as well get used to seeing the ball sailing out of the park regularly.
Arshad Khan, Mohsin Khan, and Yudhvir Singh Charak will have to hit the seam well and not give the MI batters too much width in the powerplay.
#2 Not lose wickets in clusters
Another issue that plagued LSG against DC at the Feroz Shah Kotla was losing wickets in clusters while batting.
In that game, they lost KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, and Deepak Hooda all within the span of consecutive overs. The lack of a cohesive partnership prevented LSG from reaching the target that was set for them by the DC batters.
LSG need to make sure that they do not lose wickets in bunches on Friday and build partnerships.
The powerplay is a crucial time for them with the bat and they need to make good use of the fielding restrictions instead of losing wickets at regular intervals.
#3 Get one top-order batter to bat through
Another way they can beat MI in this game is by getting at least one of their top-order batters to play till the end and anchor their innings. This can be done either by their skipper KL Rahul or his fellow opener Quinton de Kock.
LSG have quite a few good hitters in their lower middle order including the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, and Ayush Badoni and if these players get a good platform, they will flourish.
However, what is most important is for their top-order batters to utilize the powerplay and build a platform for the rest of their players to come in and express themselves to the fullest without any fear or restrictions whatsoever.
