4 Tamil Nadu players who will turn out for GT in IPL 2025 ft. Washington Sundar
Gujarat Titans (GT) made the uncanny decision to pick four Tamil Nadu players in their side in the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, last month. The franchise must have seen something that we have not, and most importantly, it points towards the burgeoning cricketing talent from the state.
The franchise, who won the IPL title in their maiden season in 2022, emerged as runners-up the next campaign before being restricted to just the league stage in 2024. Their intention will be to edge past the league phase and at least make it to the playoffs in the 2025 edition of the cash-rich tournament.
In this listicle, we take a look at the four Tamil Nadu players who will turn out for GT in IPL 2025:
#1 Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar, who was one of the big purchases made by GT in this auction, will be one of the first players from Tamil Nadu to play for them in the upcoming edition of the tournament. The all-rounder has been in fine form for India of late, and will be expected to recreate his form in the IPL as well.
Sundar cost GT INR 3.20 crore in the auction, and he is bound to be given a meaty role both with the bat and the ball in hand. With the latter, he is known to be effective inside the powerplay when the ball still has most of its lacquer on. With the bat, Sundar can be relied upon to deliver crucial knocks from time to time.
#2 Sai Sudharsan
Opener Sai Sudharsan, who was retained by GT ahead of the auction held earlier this year, will be a player that the franchise is keen to bet upon. The southpaw has showcased glimpses of his potential and was their leading run-getter last season. He will open the innings alongside skipper Shubman Gill.
Sudharsan scored 362 and 527 runs in the 2023 and 2024 editions of the tournament, respectively for GT, and the latter know that they have a real star in the making in their midst. The 23-year-old has an impressive average of 47 in the IPL, to go with a strike rate of 139. He has also scored one century and six half-centuries.
#3 Shahrukh Khan
Middle-order dynamo Shahrukh Khan is another Tamil Nadu player who will feature for GT in the upcoming edition of the tournament. The former Punjab Kings batter has shown time and again how valuable he can be in the middle and lower middle order, especially in times of crisis when his team needs quick runs.
Khan has the valuable ability to clear the boundary ropes without much fuss. He is also known to be a more than decent fielder and possesses leadership qualities. Khan was retained by GT ahead of the auction after they saw him score 127 runs at a strike rate of 169 in 2023. They will hope to see him continue doing well for them.
#4 R Sai Kishore
Left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore makes up the quartet of Tamil Nadu players who will turn up for GT in the upcoming edition of the IPL. He was purchased for INR 2 crores by the franchise, and will be expected to play a vital role for them in the middle overs when the intention is to dry up the runs of their opponents.
The 28-year-old was a part of the franchise in 2024 and 2022, in which he picked up a cumulative of 13 wickets. He has also played in three T20Is for India, and hence, came into this auction as a capped player. Kishore is one of the most promising spinners in the country at the moment, and someone we need to keep an eye on.
