4 times Ravichandran Ashwin scored a hundred and took a 5-wicket haul in the same Test ft. IND vs BAN 2024

Ravichandran Ashwin is a certified legend of Indian cricket. The 38-year-old all-rounder has been a match-winner for Team India in the longest format for almost 13 years.

Since making his debut for Team India in 2011, Ashwin has picked up 522 Test wickets, including 37 five-wicket hauls in an innings. Apart from his heroics with the ball, in 142 innings with the bat, he has scored six Test centuries and 14 half-centuries and is more than a handy batter lower down the order.

A veteran of 101 Tests, Ashwin is a force to reckon with for the opposition, especially in Indian conditions. He has been an indispensable part of the Indian Test team and is still going strong.

On that note, here is a look at four times when Ravichandran Ashwin scored a hundred and took a five-wicket haul in the same Test.


#1 103 and 5/156 vs West Indies - 2011

Ashwin displayed his all-round skills in the very first Test series he played. The opponents were the West Indies, who were on the receiving end of his heroics not for the last time.

In the third Test of the series played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, West Indies scored a mammoth 590 in the first innings. Ashwin had to toil hard for his wickets, but was consistent with his lines and lengths and picked up his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket. His victims were Adrain Barath, Kraigg Brathwaite, Marlon Samuels, Ravi Rampaul and Devendra Bishoo. He bowled a marathon spell of 52.1 overs and ended up with figures of 5-156.

India were reduced to 322 for six when Ashwin walked out to bat. He played a blinder of an innings and scored 103 runs from 118 balls, including 15 boundaries and two maximums. Due to his knock, India managed to score 482 in their first innings.

Ashwin picked up four more wickets when the West Indies came out to bat for the second time, and the visitors were bundled out for 134. India needed two runs to win from the final ball of the Test. However, Ashwin scored just one and was run out.

The match ended in a draw. Ashwin was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.


#2 113 and 7/87 vs West Indies - 2016

Four of his six Test centuries have been scored against the West Indies. Ashwin's third Test century was against the same opposition at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Ashwin batted at No. 6 for Team India and scored 113 from 253 balls. He gave able support to Virat Kohli, who scored 200 in India's first innings. The duo added 168 runs for the fifth wicket. India declared their innings on a score of 566 for the loss of eight wickets.

The West Indies were bundled out for 243 in their first innings. The duo of Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami picked up four wickets apiece, and Amit Mishra scalped two.

India enforced the follow-on, and Ashwin then spun his web around the home team. He picked up seven wickets in the third innings of the Test. His victims were Rajendra Chandrika (caught behind), Jermaine Blackwood (caught), Marlon Samuels (bowled), Roston Chase (caught), Jason Holder (bowled), Devendra Bishoo (caught) and Shannon Gabriel (bowled).

India won the Test by an innings and 92 runs. Ashwin was once again the nemesis for the West Indies and was named Player of the Match.


#3 106 and 5/43 vs England - 2021

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai holds a special place in the heart of the local boy, Ashwin. He displayed his all-round skills against a visiting English team in February 2021.

India scored 329 in their first innings courtesy of a brilliant century (161) from Rohit Sharma. England were bundled out for 134 in their first innings, and Ashwin was the chief destroyer.

In 23.5 overs, the off-spinner picked up five English wickets. Dom Sibley, Dan Lawrence, Ben Stokes, Olly Stone, and Stuart Broad were his victims.

India were in a spot of bother in their second innings, having lost six wickets for just 106 runs. Ashwin turned out to be a savior with the bat and added 96 runs for the seventh wicket with Virat Kohli. After the latter was dismissed, Ashwin continued to torment the English bowlers and scored a brilliant century (106). He was the last batsman dismissed as India scored 286.

Ashwin picked up three more wickets in England's second innings as the home team won the Test by 317 runs.


#4 113 and 6-88 vs Bangladesh - 2024

Ashwin once again displayed his all-round skills in Chennai against Bangladesh. In the very first Test of India's home season, the veteran cricketer was named the Player of the Match for his terrific showing.

On the first morning of the Test, the ball was moving around a bit. The Indian top order failed to get going against Bangladesh and were reduced to 144 for the loss of six wickets.

Ashwin thereafter joined Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, and the duo added 199 runs for the seventh wicket. Ashwin scored 113, his fastest Test century till date, and guided Team India to a respectable total of 376.

Though Ashwin was wicketless in Bangladesh's first innings, he was the chief destroyer the second time around and picked up six wickets. His victims were Shadman Islam, Monimul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed.

Bangladesh were bundled out for 234, and India won the Test by 280 runs.
