5 active cricketers who have scored a T20I hundred but not an IPL century

The IPL is the world's biggest T20 league with the best cricketers from different nations competing against each other in a franchise-based competition.

The BCCI launched this tournament in 2008, aiming to change Indian cricket forever. Fifteen years down the line, the IPL has become the number one T20 league in terms of competition level as well as brand value. Several cricketers have prioritized IPL over international cricket in the modern era, but the international arena still remains the final aim of the majority of the players.

The IPL and T20I format present two different challenges. While some players have scored a century in the Indian Premier League but never touched three figures in T20I matches, here are five active batters who have not recorded an IPL hundred but scored a T20I century.

(Please Note: Players who have played both T20I cricket and Indian Premier League have only been considered.)

#1 Deepak Hooda, India

Deepak Hooda is the only Indian to feature on this list. The Indian all-rounder notched up his maiden T20I century against Ireland last year in an away T20I series. He played a magnificent knock of 104 runs from 57 balls to help India win by four runs.

Hooda has played 106 matches in the Indian Premier League, but has never scored a ton. His highest score is 64, while his batting average is just 18.38.

#2 Martin Guptill, New Zealand

Martin Guptill has been a part of Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. He played a total of 13 matches for the three franchises, aggregating 270 runs. His highest score in the league is 50.

While Guptill could not achieve much success in the Indian Premier League, he has registered two T20I hundreds for New Zealand. The 36-year-old is also among the highest run-getters of all time in T20Is.

#3 Alex Hales, England

Alex Hales has been a member of three franchises as well, namely the Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. He has played a total of six games, scoring 148 runs at an average of 24.67.

Hales has a much better record in T20Is, where he has aggregated 2,074 runs in 75 innings for England. The opening batter has recorded one century for his nation in the shortest format of the game.

#4 Evin Lewis, West Indies

Evin Lewis has slammed a couple of centuries for West Indies in T20I cricket. Lewis' highest score in T20I matches is 125, while his strike rate has been more than 150.

The southpaw could not replicate that performance for MI, Lucknow Super Giants or Rajasthan Royals in the league as he scored 654 runs in 26 innings, registering zero hundreds and four half-centuries.

#5 Glenn Maxwell, Australia

One of the most surprising names to appear on this list is Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. The right-handed batter has recorded three tons in T20I cricket, but has never touched triple figures in the Indian Premier League.

Maxwell has touched the 90-run mark on a couple of occasions in the IPL, but has always fallen short of his hundred. It will be interesting to see if he can end his drought of hundreds in the remaining matches of the 2023 season.
