5 big overseas names missing from IPL 2025 Auction list ft. Jofra Archer
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 player auction list is out. As many as 574 players are set to go under the hammer during the highly anticipated mega auction.
The mega auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25, 2024 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 205 overseas players are a part of this list with 193 capped overseas and 12 uncapped overseas players.
Overseas players have always brought a bit of flair to the IPL, also adding to the quality and appeal of the league overall. Over the years, several foreign stars have represented various teams and have become household names.
The player auction this year will once see some of the biggest overseas players go under the hammer. However, there are some big overseas names who will not be a part of the IPL 2025 auction as well.
With the list now out, here are five big overseas names missing from the IPL 2025 Auction list.
5 big overseas names missing from IPL 2025 Auction
#5 Saurabh Netravalkar
USA left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar, who impressed one and all with his skills during the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup, rose to fame during the marquee tournament.
Given his Indian connect, having represented the Indian U-19 team and played first-class cricket for Mumbai, it was expected that Saurabh Netravalkar would be seen in the IPL as well soon as an overseas player.
However, it is surprising that he has not registered his name for the upcoming mega auction and is missing from the list.
#4 Chris Woakes
English all-rounder Chris Woakes has been a part of the IPL for several seasons. He made his debut in 2017 and has played for teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings.
He was contracted with Punjab Kings for the 2024 season but did not feature in a single game. Subsequently, he was released ahead of the mega auction. Woakes has not registered for the mega auction ahead of the 2025 season.
#3 Cameron Green
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has made a significant name for himself in the IPL with some decent performances. He represented Mumbai Indians in the 2023 season and amassed 452 runs apart from picking up six wickets.
In 2024, he was traded into Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he scored 255 runs and grabbed 10 wickets as well. He was released by the franchise after the season.
Green is missing from the 2025 auction list due to his surgery to address a long-standing lower-back stress fracture, which has ruled him out. Given his skillset, Green is certainly a big miss.
#2 Ben Stokes
England Test skipper and all-rounder Ben Stokes is another notable overseas player who will not feature in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He had opted out of the 2024 season as well due to workload management and wanted to focus on Test cricket given his battle with injuries.
Stokes has not registered for the 2025 mega auction as well. He has not been a regular in the league over the last few years, having played only 11 matches during 2023, 2021, and 2020 combined.
#1 Jofra Archer
English pacer Jofra Archer is probably the biggest overseas name to not feature in the 2025 mega auction list.
Mumbai Indians acquired Jofra Archer for ₹8 crore during the 2022 mega auction. However, he missed the entire first season and managed to participate in only four matches during the 2023 season before returning home due to a recurring elbow injury.
He was not a part of the 2024 season as well, skipping the league to manage his workload and injury. Archer has not registered his name for the 2025 mega auction and hence, will remain away from the league once again.
