5 cricketers who once were a part of IPL but now do normal jobs ft. Siddarth Kaul, Doug Bollinger
Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the biggest sports tournaments on earth. It is the dream of every cricketer to be a part of the IPL. This competition not only provides a player with a platform to showcase their talent to the world, but the money involved in the tournament is also unmatched.
Several players ended their international careers to extend their stay in the IPL, and they made crores of rupees as well. Generally, the players who retire from the league return to the tournament as a mentor, coach, or commentator. However, not every player gets that opportunity after retiring.
Some cricketers even ended up doing normal jobs away from the cricket field after once being a part of the world's most lucrative T20 league. Here's a list of five such names.
#1 Siddarth Kaul
Former fast bowler Siddarth Kaul announced his retirement from all formats of cricket a few days ago. The pacer had a successful career in the Indian Premier League, where he played for Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
At the age of 34, Kaul decided to hang up his boots. Soon after retirement, Kaul shared a picture on his X profile from the State Bank of India in Chandigarh, informing his followers that it was office time for him now.
#2 Nathan Bracken
Another retired fast bowler to feature on the list is Nathan Bracken, who was a part of the Australian squad that won the ICC ODI World Cup in 2007. A year later, Royal Challengers Bengaluru roped him in for the Indian Premier League.
While Bracken was a part of the RCB squad for multiple seasons, he could not play a single match due to injury. After retirement, the former Australian pacer now works as an Accounts Manager in Sydney.
#3 Suraj Randiv
Former Sri Lankan spinner Suraj Randiv was a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad that won the IPL 2011 trophy under MS Dhoni's captaincy. He played eight matches for CSK, scalping six wickets at an economy rate of 7.69.
Despite his impressive performance, Randiv never got a chance to play in the league after 2011. In 2021, a video went viral on the internet, where he was spotted working as a bus driver in Australia.
#4 Dirk Nannes
Another former Chennai Super Kings cricketer to appear on the list is Dirk Nannes. The left-arm pacer also had stints with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Daredevils in the league.
Nannes works as a pool inspector now. While the former CSK pacer works as a commentator in some games, he has his own business, where his team inspects the pool fences.
#5 Doug Bollinger
Doug Bollinger was an integral part of the CSK squad that won the trophy in 2010 and 2011. The former Australian pacer did not plan long-term during his playing days, but soon after retirement, he figured out his new business.
Bollinger became a lawn technician and launched his own franchise. He maintains the lawns of his clients, which includes services like weed control, liquid fertilising, and organic soil conditioning.
