5 incredible records broken by Finn Allen during his knock of 151 in WF vs SFU MLC 2025 opener

In the opening match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, Finn Allen played a sensational knock for San Francisco Unicorns against Washington Freedom. The match was played on Thursday, June 12.

Finn Allen opened the batting for Unicorns, as Washington elected to field first. He led the charge with a blistering century as he came out all guns blazing, taking the bowlers to the cleaners. Allen smashed a 51-ball 151, hitting five boundaries and 19 sixes at a jaw-dropping strike-rate of 296.08.

Riding on his stellar century, the Unicorns put up a massive total of 269/5 in 20 overs. In reply, Washington Freedom put up a brave effort but fell short by some margin. They raced to 146 in 13.1 overs but lost all their wickets in the process, losing by a massive margin of 123 runs.

During his historic knock in the MLC 2025 season opener, Finn Allen broke multiple records. Here are five records he broke during his 151-run blitz.

#5 Fastest hundred in MLC history

Finn Allen got his hundred off just 34 balls in the MLC 2025 season opener. He broke the record for the fastest hundred in the history of the competition with his terrific hitting all around the park.

Previously, former West Indies international Nicholas Pooran, who recently announced his international retirement, held the record when he had smashed a 40-ball hundred playing for MI New York against Seattle Orcas in the final of the MLC 2023 edition. Allen's ton is also the second-fastest in a T20 franchise tournament, only behind Chris Gayle's 30-ball hundred in the IPL 2013 edition.

#4 Most sixes in a T20 innings

Finn Allen smoked as many as 19 sixes during his scintillating 151-run knock in the MLC 2025 opener. With this, he also created a new world record by breaking the record for the most sixes hit in a T20 innings. 19 sixes are now the most by a batter in a single T20 innings.

Allen surpassed Chris Gayle to break the record. Gayle held the record previously when he had smashed 18 sixes in a T20 innings. It was during his unbeaten 146-run knock in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League in 2017, where he had hit 18 sixes.

#3 Highest individual score in MLC history

Fin Allen's 151 off 51 balls is now also the highest individual score by a batter in the history of the MLC league. No batter has ever breached the 150-mark in the history of the tournament before.

Previously, Nicholas Pooran held the record for the highest individual score in the MLC. The left-hander had struck an unbeaten 137 off just 55 balls in the final of the 2023 edition while playing for MI New York against Seattle Orcas, where he had hit ten fours and 13 sixes.

#2 Fastest 150 in T20s

Finn Allen also became the batter to score the fastest 150 in a T20 match, breaking the record and making it his own. His 150 came up off just 49 balls in the game against Washington Freedom.

South Africa's Dewald Brevis previously held the record for the fastest 150 in T20s, when he had scored the same off just 52 balls in the CSA T20 Challenge in 2022, playing for the Titans against the Knights.

#1 Finn Allen's century is the fastest by a New Zealand player in T20s

Finn Allen's 34-ball hundred in the MLC 2025 opener is also the fastest T20 hundred by a New Zealand player across any T20 competition around the globe. He beat the record, which was previously held by former Kiwi opener Martin Guptill.

Martin Guptill had registered a 35-ball hundred in 2018 while playing for Worcestershire against Northamptonshire in the Vitality Blast T20 tournament. Alled overhauled the record by scoring a hundred in one ball less than Guptill.
