5 Indian batters with most runs in international cricket ft. Rohit Sharma

Team India's senior batter Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is after the 2024 T20 World Cup, which concluded in the West Indies last month. It was a fitting farewell for the captain in the T20I format as the Men in Blue beat South Africa in the final in Barbados to end their 11-year-long ICC title drought.

Rohit led from the front for Team India in the tournament, finishing as the second-leading run-getter in the 2024 T20 World Cup. In eight innings, he smashed 257 runs at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.71. The opening batter struck a scintillating 92 off 41 against Australia in the Super Eight round and hammered 57 off 39 in the semifinal against England.

The right-handed batter ended his T20I career as the leading run-getter in the format. In 159 matches, he hammered 4231 runs at an average of 32.05 and a strike rate of 140.89, with five tons and 32 fifties.

Rohit also features on the list of Indian batters who have scored the most runs in international cricket. On that note, let's take a look at five Indian batters with the most number of runs in international cricket.

Former captain Sourav Ganguly features at number five on the list of Indian batters with the most runs in international cricket. Ganguly has 18,433 runs from 421 matches (485 innings) at an average of 41.42, with 38 hundreds and 106 half-centuries.

The southpaw, who scored a famous hundred on Test debut at Lord's, featured in a total of 113 Tests, scoring 7212 runs at an average of 42.17, with 16 hundreds and 35 half-centuries.

Ganguly also played 311 ODIs, amassing 11,363 runs at an average of 41.02, with 22 tons and 72 fifties. Although he played 72 T20s, Ganguly never featured in a T20I match for India.

Rohit is currently at No. 4 on the list of Indian batters with the most runs in international cricket. The 37-year-old has so far featured in 480 matches (506 innings) across the three formats, amassing 19,077 runs at an average of 43.25, with 48 hundreds and 104 half-centuries.

The right-handed batter has 4,137 runs from 59 Test matches at an average of 45.46, with 12 hundreds and 17 fifties. He has 10,709 runs in 262 ODIs at an average of 49.12, with 31 tons and 55 fifties.

Rohit is the only batter with three double-hundreds in ODIs. As mentioned earlier, he notched up 4,231 runs in 159 T20Is.

Rahul Dravid, who was the coach of the Indian team until the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup, features at No. 3 on the illustrious list of Indian batters with the most runs in international cricket. The former captain played 504 international matches (599 innings), amassing 24,064 runs at an average of 45.57, with 48 hundreds and 145 fifties.

Dravid played 164 Tests and accumulated 13,288 runs at an average of 52.31, with 36 tons and 63 fifties. He played 344 ODIs, scoring 10,889 runs, averaging 39.16. His stats included 12 hundreds and 83 half-centuries.

Dravid only played one T20I where he scored 31 runs at a strike rate of 147.61.

Virat Kohli is second on the famed list of Indian batters who have scored the most runs in international cricket. The 35-year-old has so far featured in 530 matches (588 innings) across the three formats and has amassed 26,884 runs, averaging 53.55, with 80 hundreds and 140 half-centuries.

Kohli has been part of 113 Tests so far and has scored 8,848 runs at an average of 49.15, with 29 tons and 30 fifties. In ODIs, he has clobbered 13,848 runs in 292 matches at an average of 58.67, with 50 tons and 72 fifties.

The right-handed batter retired from T20Is with 4,188 from 125 games at a strike rate of 137.04, with one hundred and 38 fifties.

The legendary Sachin Tendulkar tops the list of Indian batters with the most runs in international cricket. He holds the record for scoring the most runs by any batter in international cricket. Tendulkar ended his iconic career with 664 matches (782 innings), totaling 34,357 runs at an average of 48.52, with 100 hundreds and 164 half-centuries.

During his illustrious career, the former India captain featured in 200 Tests, amassing 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78, with 51 tons and 68 fifties. In ODIs, he played 463 matches and smashed 18,426 at an average of 44.83, with 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries. Tendulkar played one T20I where he scored 10 runs at a strike rate of 83.33.
