5 Indian names surprisingly missing from IPL 2025 auction list ft. Amit Mishra
The build-up to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 player auction only intensifies as the list of players to go under the hammer is now out. Five hundred and seventy-four players have been listed in the final auction pool ahead of the upcoming season.
Three hundred and eighteen of the 574 players are Indians, including 48 capped and 318 uncapped players. Indian players make up the league's core and are vital assets to their respective teams.
Having a strong Indian core has always been essential for teams that wish to do well in the IPL. During the 2025 mega auction, several Indian superstars such as KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant will go under the hammer, expected to ignite fierce bidding wars.
However, a few Indian players are not on the final list of players available for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is surprising given the large number of Indians registered on the list.
On that note, here is a look at five such names Indian names surprisingly missing from the IPL 2025 Auction list.
#5 Parvez Rasool
Parvez Rasool, the right-arm off-break spinner from Jammu & Kashmir is not a part of the IPL 2025 mega auction players list. Now 35, Rasool last featured in the league in 2016, playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Rasool made his first IPL appearance in 2013, representing the now-defunct Pune Warriors India. He was picked by the SunRisers Hyderabad for the 2014 season and featured for them in 2015 as well.
Rasool played 11 games in his IPL career, claiming only four wickets. He played an ODI for India in 2014 and made his first and last T20I appearance for India in 2017.
#4 Cheteshwar Pujara
Veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara has been consistently scoring runs on the domestic circuit and county cricket. However, he was not included in India's Test squad for the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Chennai Super Kings acquired him for the 2021 IPL season but he did not play a single game. He last played an IPL match in 2014 and has always remained unsold ever since except until 2021.
He has represented teams like Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. While the chances of Pujara being picked by any team this time around were unlikely anyway, it is still surprising not to see his name in the auction list.
#3 Vasuki Koushik
Hailing from Karnataka, Vasuki Koushik is a notable miss from the mega auction list, with his state-mates Vyshak Vijaykumar and Vidwath Kaverappa being registered.
Koushik has never played in the IPL before. However, he has been a part of teams like Shivamogga Lions, Mysuru Warriors, and Bengaluru Blasters in the Maharaja Trophy.
The right-arm quick has played 33 T20s in his career, taking 40 wickets at an average of 21.57 and an economy rate of 7.59
#2 Wriddhiman Saha
Wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha, who was seen playing for Gujarat Titans last season, is also missing from the players list for the upcoming auction. Apart from Gujarat, Saha has played for many other teams like Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and SunRisers Hyderabad.
Saha has played 170 IPL matches, scoring 2934 runs, including a historic hundred in the 2014 final.
#1 Amit Mishra
Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra is among the league's most successful bowlers. He is among the top wicket-takers in the league's history with 174 scalps from 162 matches.
He was seen playing for the Lucknow Super Giants last season but featured in just one game. He has been a part of several other IPL franchises such as Deccan Chargers, SunRisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals.
As in the case of Pujara, Amit Mishra would have also found it difficult to be picked by any franchise. However, with his fellow leg-spinner Piyush Chawla on the list, Mishra's exclusion is a bit of a surprise.
