5 major milestones achieved by India on Day 4 of IND vs BAN Test in Kanpur ft. Fastest 50

Team India produced an extraordinary batting performance to blow away the Bangladesh bowling attack in Kanpur. Quickfire half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul powered India to 285/9 dec in just 34.4 overs in the first innings at Green Park.

Generally, teams tend to maintain a run rate of around three or four runs per over in Test cricket. However, with Day 2 and Day 3 of the Kanpur Test being abandoned due to rain, India had no other option but to play aggressively to bring life back into this match.

India maintained a fantastic run rate of 8.22 in the first innings today. Here are five milestones that the home side accomplished during the extraordinary performance.

#1 India scored their fastest team 50 in Kanpur

India took only 18 balls to complete 50 in the first innings at Green Park. Openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal launched an all-out assault on the Bangladeshi bowlers to take the team's score to 51 in three overs.

Interestingly, this was the first time India touched the 50-run mark in just three overs in an international match. They have never accomplished this feat in an ODI or a T20I as well.

#2 The 'Bharat-Ball' in Kanpur

While this was India's fastest 50 in international cricket, it was also the fastest team 50 by any team in Test history. Not just that, India also set new records for the fastest 100 (61 balls), 150 (110 balls), 200 (146 balls) and 250 (181 balls) in Tests.

IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru highlighted India's achievements and labeled this form of the game as 'Bharat-Ball'.

#3 Rohit Sharma became the first opener to hit 2 sixes on first 2 balls of a Test innings

Indian captain Rohit Sharma played an entertaining cameo of 23 runs from 11 balls at Green Park. He started his innings with two back-to-back sixes off Khaled Ahmed's bowling.

Courtesy of the two maximums, Rohit became the first opener to start his innings with two sixes in a Test match. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar achieved this feat in the middle-order while Foffy Williams and Umesh Yadav did the same in the lower middle-order.

#4 Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to 27,000 runs in international cricket

Virat Kohli narrowly missed out on his half-century in the first innings at Green Park. He lost his stumps to Shakib Al Hasan on 47. However, during his brief stay in the middle, Kohli managed to set a world record.

The former Indian captain became the fourth batter after Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting to complete 27,000 runs in international cricket. Not just that, Virat touched the milestone in just 594 innings, which is the least taken by any batter.

Tendulkar previously held the world record, having reached the milestone in 623 innings.

#5 Yashasvi Jaiswal created a world record against Bangladesh in Kanpur

Bangladesh have been playing Test cricket for over two decades now. However, not a single batter had been able to score a half-century in just 31 balls against the Tigers.

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal accomplished the feat earlier today by scoring 50 runs off 31 balls in Kanpur. Jaiswal set a new record for the fastest fifty by any batter in a Test against Bangladesh, ending with 72 off 51 balls.
