Former India captain Virat Kohli reminded everyone of his class once again, continuing his love affair with Australia. After poor performances and constant failure to make big scores, Kohli faced severe criticism coming into the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
In the first innings of the ongoing Test at Perth, Virat Kohli's lean patch seemed to continue as he was dismissed for just five runs. However, he came back strong in the second innings, slamming his 81st international hundred and 30th Test century. Kohli remained unbeaten on 100 off 143 deliveries as India declared their innings at 487/6.
The right-hander started off well and looked positive. He carried on and converted a good start into a big innings. His last Test hundred had come in 2023 against West Indies.

On his way to a memorable hundred, Virat Kohli equaled legendary Pakistani batter Zaheer Abbas for the second-most fifty-plus scored by Asians in Australia in the history of Test cricket.
Kohli now has 11 fifty-plus scores against Australia in Australia in Test cricket. He is now second on the list and is only behind his own countrymate Sachin Tendulkar, who has 13 fifty-plus scores in Tests Down Under.
#4 Most hundreds across formats by a visiting batter in Australia
As he scored an unbeaten 100 in the ongoing first Test against Australia at Perth, Virat slammed his 10th hundred against Australia across formats. Kohli now has seven Test hundreds against Australia in Australia.
With this ton, he has created the record for most international hundreds (10) across all formats by a visiting batter in Australia.
#3 Second-most Test hundreds by visiting batters in Australia
This is Virat Kohli's seventh Test hundred in Australia. He is now joint-second on the list for most Test hundreds by visiting batters in Australia. Jack Hobbs tops the list with nine tons while Kohli equaled Wally Hammond, who also scored seven Test tons in Australia.
Kohli overtook Sachin Tendulkar and Herbert Sutcliffe, who have scored six Test hundred apiece in Australia. Therefore, Kohli needs two more Test tons to equal Hobbs and three more to break the record.
#2 Joint-most Test hundreds in an away country for India
This is Virat Kohli's seventh Test hundred against Australia in Australia. This is the most by any Indian in Australia. Kohli overtook Sachin, who had scored six Test hundreds in Australia. He also went past Rahul Dravid, who scored six Test tons in England.
Kohli has also now equaled Sunil Gavaskar for the most Test hundreds in an away country for India. Gavaskar slammed seven Test hundreds for India in the West Indies.
#1 Most Test hundreds by an Indian against Australia
Kohli's unbeaten ton on Day 3 is his ninth Test hundred against Australia. This is the most by an Indian against Australia. Kohli overtook Gavaskar, who scored eight Test hundreds against Australia.
He is third on the list of most Test hundreds against an opponent for India. Gavaskar tops the list with 13 Test tons against the West Indies while Sachin has 11 against Australia. Kohli is joint-third with Sachin, who also has nine Test tons against Sri Lanka.
