5 players who went shockingly unsold in WPL 2025 auction ft. Sneh Rana

The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction concluded in Bengaluru on Sunday, December 15. The one-day event saw the franchises completing their squads. Several domestic and uncapped players were roped in by the franchises.

Among some of the big buys were Simran Shaikh (₹1.90 crore), Deandra Dottin (₹1.70 crore), G Kamalini (₹1.60 crore), and Prema Rawat (₹1.20 crore).

A total of 19 players were sold at the WPL 2025 auction, including five overseas players with a total of ₹9.05 crores being spent. Teams like Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru purchased four players apiece while the UP Warriorz bought three players.

Several players, both Indian and overseas, unfortunately did not find any bidders. However, there were some names that were surprising in the list of players to remain unsold in the WPL 2025 auction.

5 players who went shockingly unsold in WPL 2025 Auction

#5 Darcie Brown

21-year-old Australian pacer Darcie Brown did not find any bidders despite her base price being ₹30 lakh. The right-arm fast-bowler is an exciting talent, having already played international cricket for Australia across all formats at such a young age.

Brown has impressive T20I numbers, having picked up 29 wickets at an economy rate of 6.54. While she has not played in the WPL yet, Brown has been a consistent performer in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) with 56 wickets from 52 matches.

#4 Tejal Hasabnis

Indian batter Tejal Hasabnis recently made her international debut in the home ODI series against New Zealand in October this year.

The right-handed batter has played three ODIs so far, scoring 57 runs with a top score of 42. However, she was impressive on the Australia tour for the India A team, scoring three consecutive fifties.

With a base price of ₹30 lakh, it was surprising that no franchise went for her at the WPL 2025 auction, given the fact that several Indian players were bought by teams.

#3 Lauren Bell

English fast-bowler Lauren Bell was among the biggest overseas players to go unsold at the WPL 2025 auction. Bell was a part of the UP Warriorz squad last season but withdrew due to international commitments and did not play a single game.

With a base price of ₹30 Llakh, no franchise raised the paddle for the 23-year-old, who has 35 wickets from 27 T20Is for England at an average of 18.82 and an economy rate of just 6.98.

Further, Lauren Bell has also picked up 41 wickets from 32 Women's Hundred matches and is among the top international bowlers at the moment.

#2 Orla Prendergast

Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast is also among the big names to not get a WPL contract ahead of the 2025 season. Prendergast has been in solid form, picking up 10 wickets from three matches in Ireland's recent T20I series against Bangladesh.

Prendergast has been a consistent performer for Ireland in T20Is, scoring 1,220 runs from 60 matches apart from grabbing 43 wickets at an average of 19.00 and an economy rate of 5.79.

With a base price of ₹30 lakh, it is surprising to see Orla Prendergast not generating attention from any of the franchises.

#1 Sneh Rana

Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana's case remains a curious one. Firstly, she was not retained by the Gujarat Giants ahead of the 2025 season auction. She remained unsold at the auction, with no team showing interest in the India international.

Notably, Sneh Rana also captained the Gujarat Giants. In 12 WPL games, she has only managed to score 47 runs and has picked up six wickets. Her numbers in the league could have been a possible reason behind franchises not going after her despite all her experience.
