5 players who won't take part in IPL 2017

KL Rahul’s shoulder injury continues to trouble him

We are less than a week away from IPL 2017. The tenth edition of the tournament is all set to entertain and enthrall us all once again. But while the tournament will feature some new additions in the form of a few England stars and some old stars returning, there will be a few who won't be taking part in the tournament.

Injuries, personal reasons and needing some time off are just some of the reasons why some international stars won't be taking part in IPL 2017. The two-month long tournament is certainly not the place you want to be if you are carrying an injury and not right mentally, so one can certainly understand the thought process behind these players' decisions.

The likes of Kevin Pietersen and Mitchell Starc announced before the auction that they won’t be taking part but since then plenty more have joined them in not taking part in the tenth edition of the tournament.

Here are five players who won't be taking part in IPL 2017:

KL Rahul

Throughout the Australia Test series, KL Rahul was struggling with his shoulder injury. After the Bengaluru Test, the Indian opener himself admitted that he had an issue with his shoulder that restricted him from playing certain shots.

But he also reassured the Indian fans by saying that he could still be effective and that was evident as he scored six fifties in seven innings during the series as India came from behind to complete the home season with victory. Now, the injury has worsened and he will need surgery ahead of the Champions Trophy.

He will go to London to undertake a surgery in a bid to be fit for selection ahead of the Champions Trophy in June. However, that means that RCB, for whom he finished as the third-leading run-getter in 2016 will not be able to call on his services during IPL 2017.
