5 popular cricketers who celebrated wickets with a dance on the field ft. Harbhajan Singh, Kieron Pollard
Cricket has transformed from a gentleman's game to the sport of glitz and glamor in recent years. Ever since the inception of franchise T20 leagues, the amount of glitz and glamor in this sport has gone up significantly.
The players not only focus on their game now, but they also try to find different ways to entertain viewers. One of the ways to earn fans' attention is to do something unique and entertaining on the field. Several cricketers have tried some dance moves on the cricket field to celebrate a happy moment or just entertain the crowds at the stadium.
Sri Lankan player Isitha Wijesundara grabbed the headlines two days ago for his hilarious dance after taking a catch in a Lanka Premier League game. In this listicle, we will look back at five other instances where a player celebrated a wicket with a dance.
#1 Harbhajan Singh's 'Bhangam' dance
The Gangnam Style dance became quite popular in the cricket world after Chris Gayle performed the moves on the field to celebrate. However, Harbhajan Singh decided to give it back to Gayle in his own style when he dismissed him in a Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match in IPL 2013.
Singh dismissed Gayle caught out for just 18 runs in that game played on April 27 at the Wankhede Stadium. After Ambati Rayudu completed the catch, Singh performed his own version of Gangnam Style along with Bhangra, and fans labeled it as the 'Bhangam dance'.
#2 Chris Gayle's Gangnam style
As mentioned ahead, Chris Gayle introduced the Gangnam-style dance moves to the cricket world in the early 2010s. The Universe Boss would perform the moves whenever he picked up a wicket.
Not just in IPL, Gayle danced when he took wickets in international cricket as well. His teammates would also join him at times.
#3 Adam Gilchrist's own version of Gangnam style
Chris Gayle brought the Gangnam moves to cricket, and Harbhajan Singh performed them when he took Gayle's wicket in IPL 2013. Interestingly, later in the same tournament, Australian legend Adam Gilchrist decided to bowl for the first time in the league and got Harbhajan's wicket on the very first ball.
Much to everyone's surprise, Gilchrist performed the Gangnam-style dance in his own way and gave a sendoff to Harbhajan. It was Gilchrist's last IPL game, and he signed off in some style.
#4 Kieron Pollard could not control his emotions after taking Andre Russell's wicket
Andre Russell is one of the most dangerous batters in T20s right now. Every bowler wants to dismiss him cheaply. Kieron Pollard managed to do so during a Major League Cricket match between MI New York and Los Angeles Knight Riders last year.
Pollard got rid of Russell for just two runs in that game. After the wicket, Pollard could not control his happiness and performed a celebratory dance on the field.
#5 Dwayne Bravo
This list will be incomplete without West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo. The former Chennai Super Kings star would perform the 'Champion' song's dance moves on the field frequently after taking wickets.
During a CLT20 match, Bravo even went to celebrate a wicket with the cheerleaders on their stage. In the final stage of his career, Bravo celebrated wickets with the 'Number One' dance celebration.
