5 Things Delhi Daredevils need to address before its too late
Delhi Daredevils was touted to be one of the most balanced sides after the IPL 2018 auction. The return of Gautam Gambhir to his home side as a leader, along with several match-winner T-20 specialists made Delhi one of the top contenders in the tournament. But, the IPL is far away from being predictable. In the start of the tournament, Delhi has lost 5 of their 6 games and are contending for the wooden spoon with Mumbai Indians.
The team looks solid on-paper but, there are certain fallacies that Delhi would need to address before its too late. In the previous match against KXIP, they made plenty of changes to the squad which did suit their home conditions but somehow, still were on the losing side.
Let's take a look at 5 changes that Delhi can make hence-forth to keep themselves in the tournament.
#1 The opening woes
One of the most important aspects of success in the T-20 game is having a destructive opening pair. With the first 6 overs of field restrictions, teams always look to get off to a flying start which can then be capitalized by the middle order. With Gautam Gambhir out of form, and neither of Colin Munro and Jason Roy able to provide consistent performances at the top, Delhi's Opening looks bleak. They are not getting the destructive opening in the powerplay which can be capitalized by the middle order.
Possible Solution
Rishabh Pant has been batting superbly in this IPL. I think he needs to open the innings along with Prithvi Shaw, who looked promising the other night. Rishabh Pant is a fine striker of the ball and giving him an opportunity in the powerplay will only grow his confidence to play those long innings for the team. We still need to see more of Prithvi Shaw, if he does good, he should be opening, if not, they can even try Shreyas Iyer at the top with Rishabh Pant.
