5 times Virat Kohli broke into a dance during a match ft. Dance with Chris Gayle
Arguably the greatest modern-day batter, Virat Kohli has dominated world cricket for more than a decade. He is scaling new heights despite being relatively at the final stretch of his career. Kohli is undoubtedly the greatest ODI batter with 50 hundreds to his name. He is not far away in Tests and T20Is as well and is considered the best all-format batter.
Barring his records in world cricket, Kohli is one of the most animated characters you will see on a cricket field. He celebrates each and every wicket as if every wicket belongs to him. He never shies away from expressing himself be it on and off the field. He has been involved in heated arguments with several opposition players and umpires.
Virat Kohli is someone who enjoys his time out in the middle, especially when he is fielding. He keeps on gesturing to the crowd to boost the bowler on his run-up and often interacts with the crowd in his own cheeky manner. He also loves his dance moves and doesn't bother to break into some dance moves during a cricket game. Kohli starts grooving to music on several occasions.
On that note, let us have a look at five occasions when Virat Kohli broke into a dance during a game:
# 5. When Virat danced to celebrate the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan
The most recent occasion, when Virat Kohli danced on a cricket field, was during the recently concluded opening Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He couldn't quite make an impact with the bat but was ready to entertain the crowd with his on-field antics.
Kohli broke into a dance after Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Shakib Al Hasan in the first innings. The Bangladesh all-rounder went for a reverse sweep and the ball caught the edge of the bat and lobbed off the boot for Rishabh Pant to take a simple catch. Kohli was in a jovial mood and seen dancing when the Indian players met to celebrate the wicket mid-pitch.
# 4. When Kohli emulated Riyan Parag and performed Bihu dance moves
Earlier this year, Virat Kohli yet again treated his fans to his dance moves during the second 2nd ODI between India and Sri Lanka. It took place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 5. It was the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama that prompted Kohli to break into a Bihu dance (a form of Assamese dance).
We have seen Riyan Parag carrying out those steps in previous IPLs but it was the first time we saw Kohli imitating those moves. He took the catch of Samarawickrama and broke into a dance which everyone present in the stadium and watching on their television sets enjoyed.
# 3. When Virat Kohli started dancing while fielding during a Test match against Australia
It was the opening day of the third Test between India and Australia when Kohli was seen dancing from the slip cordon and the internet broke into a frenzy. India was blown away by the Australia spinners on the opening day of the Test as they folded out for just 109 runs.
Despite India getting skittled out for a below-par score, Kohli was at his animated best on the field. A video went viral on social media where Kohli was seen dancing and enjoying his time in the field. Time and again we have seen the former Indian skipper carrying out dance moves during a match.
# 2. When Kohli broke into a Bhangra during the 2021 WTC final
Virat Kohli is one of the biggest entertainers in world cricket not just with the bat but also on the field. He is always on your face and his approach towards the game has changed how the Indian players carry themselves on the field. We have seen Kohli dancing on several occasions and the WTC 2021 final was one such occasion.
The Indian fans flocked to Southampton for the inaugural final of the WTC. They brought dhols and several other musical instruments to make their presence felt. Kohli couldn't quite control his body while the music was on and grooved to some of the popular Bhangra steps.
# 1. When Virat Kohli had a gala time with Chris Gayle
Over the years, IPL has bridged the gap between international players from different nations and some of the relations have bloomed even off the field. Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle share a great mutual admiration having played for RCB together between 2011-2017.
It was during India’s tour of the West Indies in 2019 when Kohli and Gayle shook their legs during a rain break in Guyana. The clip immediately garnered attention and went viral on social media. The match had to be eventually abandoned but India ended up winning the series 2-0.
