5 top batters to watch out for in TNPL 2024 ft. Sai Sudharsan
Lyca Kovai Kings and Chepauk Super Gillies have got the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 underway by playing its first match at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem on Friday, July 5. As is the case usually, we expect to see good cricket throughout the tournament given the standard and calibre of players on offer. Some players who will turn out in this tournament have played for India and some in the IPL.
Any T20 tournament is bound to throw up fine performances by batters, and the TNPL is no exception. We hope to see big scores throughout the tournament from players who are fine strokemakers in their own right.
In this listicle, we take a look at the top five batters to watch out for in this tournament:
#1 Sai Sudharsan (Lyca Kovai Kings)
Opening batter Sai Sudharsan, who is in Zimbabwe with the Indian team at the moment, will turn up for Lyca Kovai Kings in this tournament.
The southpaw has had a brilliant run with the bat in hand in the recent past, going back to the two half-centuries he scored against South Africa in December last year.
He had a good time with the bat in the IPL for Gujarat Titans as well, and signed a new contract to play for Surrey in the English domestic season recently. He earned plaudits after having won the County Championship with them last season.
#2 Shahrukh Khan (Lyca Kovai Kings)
Gujarat Titans and key Tamil Nadu lower-order batter Shahrukh Khan, who is known to hit the ball a long way, will be one of the best batters to watch out for in the TNPL this season.
Shahrukh has been given the responsibility of leading the Lyca Kovai Kings in this tournament, and it has to be seen how well he responds to this challenge.
He is known to create impressive angles to work the ball into gaps as well as possess immense power to clear boundary ropes with ease.
#3 Baba Indrajith (Dindigul Dragons)
Baba Indrajith, who is one of the finest batters in Tamil Nadu, will represent Dindigul Dragons in this tournament and play under the leadership of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Indrajith is known to rotate the strike extremely well as well as hit the ball in the air when the situation rises.
The former Tamil Nadu captain is also expected to don the wicketkeeping gloves for the Dragons in the TNPL this season, but it is his batting that will draw crowds to stadiums across the state.
#4 Baba Aparajith (Chepauk Super Gillies)
Indrajith's twin brother Baba Aparajith is another fine batter to watch out for in the TNPL this season.
Aparajith is one of the most technically solid batters in the country, and the shots he plays warm even the coldest of hearts.
He will turn up for the Chepauk Super Gillies and has also been entrusted with the responsibility of leading them.
Apart from handling the pressure to lift the title for his franchise, Aparajith will hope to rake in the runs and provide a reminder to the national selectors that he is still around.
#5 N Jagadeesan (Chepauk Super Gillies)
N Jagadeesan is one of the best wicketkeeper-batters in the country at the moment and will hope to have a good season in the TNPL.
Turning out for the Chepauk Super Gillies, Jagadeesan will be expected to star with the bat and provide his team with good starts inside the powerplay.
The former Chennai Super Kings man is known to exploit fielding restrictions inside the powerplay with ease and also rotate the strike to take singles whenever the field spreads out.
