5 unlikely batting records held by bowlers
Some bowlers do love to bat and they have often shown their mettle with the bat and contributed to their team’s cause in the most effective manner.
Putting a price tag on their wickets, they have often bailed their teams out of trouble with the skill they are not known for. In doing so, bowlers have also created some records which would have made any batsman proud.
We thought we should give them the credit they deserve and make a list of the batting records they own.
What are those records? Let’s find out
5) Jason Gillespie
Always known to be a gutsy customer with the bat, the tall fast bowler often stitched some important partnerships with his teammates to bail Australia out of trouble.
However, he made history when he scored an unbeaten 201 against Bangladesh in Chittagong in 2006 and owned the record of scoring the most number of runs as a nightwatchman in Tests. It is also the only double century scored by a nightwatchman in the history of Test match cricket.
Gillespie shared a 320-run partnership with Michael Hussey and helped Australia post a mammoth total of 581. He batted for 574 minutes and faced 425 balls during his monumental knock.
This surely talks a volume about Gillespie’s batting abilities. And it must also be noted that Gillespie scored his maiden double ton on his birthday.(19th April)
