52 all out, Pakistan U19 lose by 214 runs to Afghanistan
The U-19 Afghanistan sprang a surprise by handing their Pakistani counterparts a heavy 214-run victory at Lahore on Friday in the third match of their 3-match tour to Pakistan, when they skittled out the hosts for just 52.
Batting first, Afghanistan had made a competitive 266-5 in their 45 overs. The Afghan team rode on an unbeaten 100* from their No.3 batsman Hashmatullah Shaidi. Shaidi’s knock, which came off just 85 balls, included 8 fours and 4 sixes. Opener Usman Ghani also made a fine 50 for the Afghan team.
Coming out to chase, Pakistan never knew what hit them as they were 3 wickets down after just 2 overs. The star performer for the Afghanistan team was fast bowler Fareed Ahmad who took all of the first 7 Pakistani wickets to fall and finished with match figures of 7/21.
At one stage, Pakistan were in danger of breaking Scotland’s record of having the lowest score(22) in U-19 cricket when they were 17/7 after 7.5 overs. Pakistan’s batsmen recorded 4 ducks while only two of the managed to get into double figures.
They were eventually bowled out for a paltry 52, managing to record their lowest score in U-19 cricket, in just 17.5 overs in an innings that lasted only 92 minutes.
Pakistan’s score is the 7th lowest in the history of U-19 cricket. Scotland hold the record for the lowest score having been bowled out for just 22 in a match against the Australia U-19 team in 2003.
Pakistan U-19 had already won the 3-match series by winning the first two matches comfortably.
