Aaron Finch ruled out of NatWest T20 Blast due to fractured foot
Australian T20 captain, Aaron Finch, has had his Twenty20 campaign for Yorkshire officially called off after medical reports revealed that he has a broken foot. Finch has a fracture on the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. He is scheduled to return to Melbourne on Tuesday to see a specialist.
Finch suffered the injury during Yorkshire’s victory over Durham Jets last Friday in the NatWest T20 Blast at Headingley.
The injury has only added to his worries. Prior to this, he tore his hamstring in the IPL which kept him out for two months. He also had a bruised lung after being hit by a bouncer while playing for Yorkshire's Second XI.
"That's the end of the season for Aaron, as far as Yorkshire is concerned," said Director of cricket Martyn Moxon. "It is a great disappointment for Aaron and the club and we wish him a speedy recovery."
Maxwell to cover for Finch absence: Yorkshire
Meanwhile the Yorkshire team is attempting to extend Glenn Maxwell’s stay in the squad to cover for the loss of Finch. Maxwell is to play his last match for the side on Tuesday evening before starting his tour of India with Australia ‘A’.
"The plan is for Glenn to return after the India A tour at the back end of July to play in the Royal London One-Day Cup competition and a couple of Championship matches," Moxon said. "We are finalising arrangements with Cricket Australia, but expect that to be sorted out soon."
The Kiwi Kane Williamson is to join the club for the final four games of the tournament towards the end of August.
Finch only managed to score 76 runs in his six innings for Yorkshire. He sat out when his side lost to the bottom club of the tournament, Derbyshire, on Sunday. The defeat saw their aspirations of making it to the quarter-finals come under jeopardy.
If Yorkshire fail to beat Worcestershire at Headingley on Tuesday, it would mark the end of their run in the Championship.
